Would you Aussies put up with this?

Off track a little bit here, I have always found it ironic that these high flying exectives get paid more than a doctor which just shows what people value more.
Wealth before health.
Another irony is that pollies who run the country get paid less than these leaches who run a company.

It just a scale thing, 1 doctour may only receve revenue from a few hundred clients, where a director may receve income form thousands of customers.

if we payed pollies more, maybe we would have a better quality of pollie, but i bet 90% of aussies would winge about that.

What I have noticed over the years is the number of senior executives whose reign has resulted in the decline of a profitable company into disastrous loss making and often bankruptcy and liquidation. These incompetents usually get a bigger and better job next time around.

Like the Fat Aussie director of Ansett AUS & NZ who put it into liquidation costing hundreds of jobs both sides of the Tasman. and who then got a big come over check from Quants? at the same time the aussie workers were picketing the NZ prime minister and wouldn’t let her Leave Australia??

I think from Quants point of view he deserved every cent, and I bet the Quants share holders and workers would agree

Pac Brands aka Bonds are one of the last large Textiles/Clothing/Footwear manufacturers left operating in Australia. They have bucked the trend of other companies going overseas, and have done so for quite a time. It's remarkable that they have held out for so long.

Workers are being portrayed as being shortchanged and having their jobs axed without any notice, but the reality is that they are NOW being told that their jobs will go sometime in the next 12 to 18 months. They will get ALL of their leave and long service entitlements, and if they haven't found a job by that time WILL ALSO receive redundancy. There have been lots of companies who have traded their way into bankruptcy and denied their workers these entitlements. Why punish PacBrands for giving up to 18 months notice that it will pay workers their entitlements? Choosing to blackban this company will only hurt the remaining 7000 Australians who will still have a job with Bonds.

Remember too that this company has not only reported a $150mil loss, but it's share price fell by 37% on the day of the announcement. 37% in one day. Do any of you have Superannuation? Is it invested in Australian Companies, do you think? I wonder how much damage this attack on Pac Brands has done to your Super Balance? Can you afford to lose a bit more?

This has been a great story for the Media, but jumping on the bandwagon and putting the boot into the the largest remaining TCF business in Aust will do nothing more than screw with the Aust economy. We should be getting behind every Aust company that's still afloat, not trying to shut them down with hysterical beat-ups.

I don't believe I said that at all. All I was trying to say is I'm sick to death of these corporate fat cats taking ridiculous salaries for so called 'performance' yet when there is a major loss 'it was the market, we aren't responsible!'. Take the CEO of RBS for an example.

All I am trying to say is it is about time we as the public decided enough is enough and made a stand. I'm not saying that taking manufacturing off shore is bad or good, it's just business, what I am sick of seeing is fat cats getting paid ridiculous amounts of money after the government has given them taxpayer money and they just sack a whole bunch of the little guys. Why not use some of the money in their salaries to develop more efficient practices and or technology.

All that people want is for the jobs to stay here,Yes the problem also arises that its made in china (which is complete rubbish) but the main problem was keeping jobs in AUSTRALIA. Of course some things are made over seas but if we dont manufacture anything here what hope do we have. Some people say it is cheaper to make it off shore well if the fat cats werent earning excessive pays and non performance bonuses it might be cheaper here. The problem lies with the head honchos if they were doing there jobs properly than the company would be able to keep jobs here and not go off shore. 37% wiped of shares and straight into the pockets of ceo's yeah they are doing a fantastic job, not.

One of the thinks that shocked me when I come to Australia was the ratio of white collar workers against the blue collar workers on the floor.

In a couple of companies was about 3 people on the office for each worker on the floor :eek:

If only it were that simple.

As for chinese quality, every thing is made to a price. China have the ability to make goods as well as any country. China does not make product in the hope it will sell, EVERYTHING is made to order and specification; a specification nominated by the company ordering the goods.

That's becasue the people on the floor look after machines and the people in the office look after people, the people on the floor, the customers, compliance etc.

I am loyal to Aussie brands whenever I can be but I truly don't mind where these Aussie companies make their stuff - well OK I won't tolerate my RMs boots coming from anywhere but Australia, but that is one of the few exceptions. It's a real treat when you do buy something made here. My Bridgestones were made in Aus but the company is owned overseas - but it's an emotional thing not a rational thing, and that's ok too from time time.

As said previously here we are on a journey and the days of us being a giant sheep station are behind us and the days of us making low end manufacturing are behind us. The days of us being a quarry will come to an end too. Those jobs we exported overseas will come back to us in demand for the knowledge and skills we have from those people that used to live in a hut with their buffalo not so long ago and now they have income from working in factories.

It's not an easy job figuring out where to take the economy and how to get it there when you've figured out where it needs to be but we know this much, throwing away good money after bad is not the answer to anything apart from having too much money and I never met anyone or saw any county with that problem..

Shinz - just as a matter of interest are Tusk jeans still made and available in NZ?
I used to order 3-4 pairs every few years - good value, made in NZ cf anything from Australia which were made in Asia).
