My mum had a stroke a few years ago and it affected her mobility - not her "fine motor skills" (eg. knitting etc), but Erich's mum has had her skills taken away, and she was the most amazing knitter - had her exhibits at the Sydney Royal Easter Show - Now not sure if she will regain the skill...she's trying though, and I guess that's a good thing.

So, if we're quiet on the Forum, that's why.

It's so sad to see our loved family members suffer.

The FAST test is aneasy way to recognise and remember the signs of stroke or a TIA.Using the FAST test involves asking three simple questions. If the person has a problem with any of these functions, dial triple zero (000) for an ambulance immediately.

FAST stands for:

• Facial weakness – can the person smile; have their mouth or eyes drooped?
• Arm weakness – can the person raise both arms?
• Speech difficulty – can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?
• Time to act – act FAST and call 000 immediately.

Our daughter is an OT so we are aware of the "FAST" signs. The stroke happened while she was at her usual Thursday "oldies" day out. When she was dropped back home, she rang saying she felt unwell. Went straight to the doctor, who arranged for her to go to hospital straight away. She started improving in hospital after a week, but on the day she was due to be discharged, she suffered a second, and more severe stroke.
