Warn high mount second hand price ?

Gday everyone, a mate at work has a 8000lb warn high mount winch, which he previously had on his F-truck he said its just sitting under his house and he would sell it but didnt know what it would be worth and i should make an offer, any ideas what would be a reasonable price to offer him ? i dont want to rip him off..but wouldn't have a clue what it would be worth..
    Cheers Adrian

    G'day mate

Dependant on its condition i would say S/H offer him between $ 700 - $1000.
New price on them is just over $3k. Price one a few weeks back.

Yeah, good second hand ones go for about $1000 or a little over. Crappy ones that you wouldn't both with are around $700.

I paid $1k for mine off Ebay with everything including excellent cable. It did have a 12v 2.5hp motor which was absolutely no problem, but I swapped it out for a more powerful one which just bolted straight on. The drum was unmarked, the finish still excellent and pulling down the motor showed it had barely been used. I did have to drive to Canberra to get it, but it was a good excuse to visit my Bro and SIL.

    Cheers

Not sure about lbs but its a total of 55kg including fairlead and steel cable etc.

The highmount is a stronger winch, its more efficient, its faster and more easily modified. Its like the sports car of winches. Bolt on a 6hp Warn winch motor to it and they are FAST and powerful. Here is a vid of Tusker whos Defender had to pull up a big enough step in a pretty heavy vehicle in mud doing a single line pull with a himount and 6hp only.

The himount winch compatible bars have no deck over the top of where the winch mounts because the winch although not wide, does sit very high. You can see where Tuskers solinoid pack is. The centre section of the bar usually looks something like this:

I paid $500 for mine in perfect working order minus cable. Was an older one with the older motor. You only need to replace the motor if you need speed.

The other benefit of the high mount is you can get a lot more cable/rope on them compared to a low mount and the run cooler as well.

Are they any easier to service than the low mounts?

I haven't fully stripped a high mount, just the top, but it looks like the high mount will just be less tedious than a low mount. I think the high mount will defiantely need less servicing than a low mount though.

I paid a grand for mine in really good nick.Very easy to work on,one thing is to never hang the drum without the side plate or you will crush the gearbox seal. The end plate needs to be repacked like wheel bearings every second year or so. Pat
