Thread: Question from Ron - Lake King - Cascade Rd - Esperance WA road conditions

Pretty good, but that's relative I suppose.

From Lake King to the Cascade Road turnoff it's a bit loose, but would be still 2WD suitable.

The road from there to Cascade townsite is gravelled and reasonably wide. A bit corrugated but not too bad.

From Cascade townsite to the South Coast Hwy is bitumen, mostly full width.

If there's been rain since November 08 then I guess conditions may have changed but apart from a few sections which had been washed out (in October I think?) it's a good road. Other than having to slow down for the washed out sections I had no dramas in my quite loaded up Falcon.

As Jamo said,the conditions at the moment are quite good with the gravel section being a little loose (normal for gravel roads here) and slightly corrugated. The bitumen section is OK. However conditions can change overnight if we get any rain.
It would all depend on what car you are taking and if it is your own. I generally would not go that way in the Statesman but would take the Fender no dramas.
You canalways go Lake Kin to Ravensthorpe to Esperance, does not add that much extra and is all sealed. Ron could always wave hello to me at the great white elephant were I am working for another 7 weeks or so.

We are heading off to Wave Rock shortly. We were trying to avoid backtracking, e.g., Ravensthorpe-Esperance.

We are in the Forester. The other option we considered was Hyden-Norseman-Esperance.

We'll spend a couple of days in Esperance before heading off to Albany so might get a chance to meet.
