Prompted by the Canning D2 story and that we already have had the food thread, recovery gear thread, tent swag thread. How about the spears thread.
what spear parts do you carry when heading out for a week or so? and dor what LR.
are we all carrying axles hub seals and an extra 40ltrs of oil?
For our madigan trip we circulated a spreadsheet amongst us, with a list of spares/tools etc and everybody contributed, both from a actual spares/tools perspective and added to suggestions.
We tried to take into account the different engine types (200, 300 & Td5).
Also did the same with recovery gear and to a smaller extent cooking gear. We also had to take into account that we were all taking different routes/times to the starting point.

300Tdi Defender Spares - shared amongst 3 vehicles :

Lift Pump,
Hoses,
Front Rubber Hub Cap,

Bearing (6202) for the engine pulleys.
For an extended desert trip, I'd consider a spare shock absorber (front & rear), a vaccuum pump, and someone recently suggested a timing belt kit with a couple of spare push rods & rockers (inlet & exhaust) in case you snap a timing belt and want to fix it in situ.

I also bring the toolbox and a patch kit with zip ties, leccy tape, wire etc etc etc.
Those are all common usable things which I'm carrying, and the things which are likely to fail if there is a failure, and the things to keep it going. I don't carry spare radiators, alternators, axles, diffs, transmissions, suspension links etc - there comes a point where you need to rationalise, and if you don't then the parts that break will be caused by the parts which you've brought just in case. The GVM on Landys is very very easy to hit when you're loaded for touring already, and I would bet that most will exceed it.
