you can tell anyone you like,
but to air your grievance to the world on this [or any other] website is not fair to the supplier if the grievance is still under dispute or if there is a chance of resolution, and not sporting if they have resolved the problem and you are still not satisfied -
in other words, if you got a service and are not satisfied with the result,
    sort it out with them,
DON'T denigrate them in a public forum, as that will not help you or them resolve the matter.
AND if they resolve the matter and you accept that with them, DON'T come here and bitch about it.
you wouldn't want it to happen to you, don't do it to them.

If you can't say something good about someone, don't say anything.

The problem is that the carrier is liable for the message. So, if defamatory comments are made -- and there's a lot of people who are mighty brave behind a keyboard -- then the website owners are in trouble. There have been numerous instances of this over the years and it is a messy legal position which is only getting worse.

And even if the website owners are legally in the clear, how would you like to spend your time and money defending a rant by someone you don't know, against corporations who have more money than you? Want to lose your house over a post someone else made on something you set up and maintained for free and friendly discussion?

The easiest solution therefore is just to ensure any such discussions are not started, whether in the right or not. You may know you're 100% correct, but nobody else does. And realistically, the poster only puts one side of the argument, and in my experience let's just say it takes two to tango.

You may also consider that the the owner of this board puts a lot of time and effort into it and it's not exactly a massive profit centre for him. Legal threats are not something anyone wants to deal with, whether they're just scare tactics or not.

So yes, tell your mates by all means, but not via this board. And try sending your post to the company in question. If you'd rewrite it before you'd read it to their face, then rewrite it before you post.

This position is by no means unique to AULRO. Every other board has an identical position, and if they don't, trust me it's only a matter of time before they run into problems and do the same thing.

We can rail against it all, free speech, should be able to do this that and the other, and once that's over with we need to return to the real world, live in it, and that's the way the world works at the moment.

Finally there's a lot to be said for tactful wording of posts. I don't know what you've written, so this may not be applicable, but there's a world of difference between a rant so intense you can almost see the spittle on the screen, and a well-reasoned account of what happened. Both can put the same message across, but one of those ways runs the risk of being deleted quickly.

i have also had posts deleted and been warned, and i am one of the earliest members of this community - and the moderators of this site were correct in doing that.

    we all err sometimes.
just keep your eyes wide open and look at the whole picture.
that's what makes this site the worlds BEST land rover site, and why you and i are part of it.
mate have you seen the movie Antz, do we all want to be following the next ant in front of us like the majority (who drive cruisers) or be like the ant that has there own destiny. boring people toe the line and never make a difference and live a mundane existance, but people who think for them selves live with purpose and enjoy.

it's not about faceless motion picture fantasies.
    it's about common decency,
your reference to another 'marque' explains to me that we are on different levels.
the world does not actually run by treading on anyone that upsets you.
as you may have determined, you have done that with me.
    end of conversation.

At the end of the day one person is responsible for all of the good this site brings and that same person has to wear the abuse / court case when it goes bad. That person needs some protection. The rules are simple and they are there for a reason. PM the good oil on the bad guys to your hearts content.

    What about this.

If a member has a problem with an advertiser that they are really peed off about - the issue is raised with a "special moderator" who then raises the issue with the advertiser behind the scenes - subject to the outcome and at the discretion of the "special moderator" the issue is posted on a special section with the advertisers response - if there is no meeting of the minds on the issue then it remains behind the scenes and the complainant could be told by the "special moderator" to get back in the box or if the complainant is totally correct and the issue is so bad that the advertiser could be asked to vacate the site - OR ANYWHERE IN BETWEEN.

You get the drift - this way - AULRO members can have some understanding that their complaints will be considered and actioned if considered appropriate - likewise both sides are considered before their is any running off at the mouth.

I really fail to see why aulro should have to intervein or be the go between in peoples bad dealings with companies........I'm sure your all big enough and ugly enough to take care of yourselves

    its a landrover forum.......

everyone has had awkward or unwanted dealings with companies that have bent us out of shape or just given us the ****s.....but that is called experience, and you know not to do it again and tell your mates over a beer not to do it.
