as representatives of a sponsor of the centenary vintage car run in 2001, my wife and i had the privilege (help ron) to share the head table with him and his 3rd wife at the gala dinner. the crowd was so big that it was spread over two halls in the exhibition centre in the ACT, Peter Brock was at the head table in the other hall.
he was amazing, some dude would come over to get his book autographed and Peter wherrett would go from mr average to mr celebrity in a second. he'd ask the guy what car he drove, the guy would say something obscure like "i was driving the Humber mk 3" and wherrett would say something like "was that the green one or the teal blue one?" "blue" the other guy would say, and wherrett would come back with "oh yeah, you were parked next to the white fc holden, yours was the one with the chrome door trim where all the earlier ones had black and the wipers were the first to use a silicon based rubber blah blah blah!"
and he did this sort of thing for everyone that came over, an amazing man and his shoes wil be hard to fill (no cross-dressing jokes please, a little weird but each to their own).
he was a a nice bloke and a great Australian and will be sadly missed.

I think no more, or less of Peter, regardless of his private life. I enjoyed and respect what he did in his public role. Any good natured "digs" at his private life, are in no way intended to be offensive. It differs in no way to Def/Ser owners slinging off at RR people, or Disco drivers teasing everyone. None of us are really serious, but given and taken in the right spirit is just a bit of fun.

there is no right spirit of vilification.

Ask the jews in 1930's Germany, or the muslims in Serbia. The African Americans in the pre-JFK southern states of the US or .....

Vilification is a crime and is never a joke.

I am not vilifying any one, and I don't believe any one else on this forum is either. As I said it is just a bit of teasing, hardly vilification; since becoming aware of some peoples sensitivities I have ceased and desisted, out of respect to those people.
Dare I ask if I am being vilified for having a different point of view?

    Awwwwwww.......... C'monnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

Australia in 2009 is NOT Germany in the 1930's and JFK has been dead for over 40 (FORTY) years. We have moved on.

I can remember watching Peter on TV when I was younger and really enjoyed his programs.

I had no idea he liked to frock up, and I DON'T REALLY CARE. The fact that he did is just really an indication of how big a place the world really is.

There has been no malice in this thread that I've seen.

    cheers, DL

Tell that to Gordon Tuckey, 22, murdered in August 1993 on remote part of a cycleway at East Woonona, Wollongong, by Thomas Albert Dunn, 19. Tuckey’s body was found in a pool of blood and was naked from the waist down and had a pair of panty hose tied around his penis. His head had been bashed against the concrete several times, making his face unrecognisable.

The defence put forward in court by Dun, was that Tuckey, who was cross dressed at the time, posed a mortal threat to Dun's sense of masculinity.

Haven't seen many comedians(ennes) in court for bashing up folk they have poked fun at.
