    Newbie seeking Disco purchase advice

    Hi everyone!

Firstly thanks for such a great forum! Seem like just the place to ask a few questions before we leap madly into Disco ownership.

We're looking at some Discovery TD5s around the Brisbane / Gold coast area. Looking solely at dealers presently because we're hoping to have some kind of warranty. Want a diesel, and NEED a 7 seater.

The trucks we're looking at so far:

2001 Disco TD5 7 seat, 137k on the clock, ex NSW, over pits each year, service history: $23 000 from Bris 4WD.

2001 Disco TD5 7 seat 219k on the clock unsure of service history etc yet. $14990 from Motor Scene

2002 Disco TD5 7 Seat, 164k on the clock, unsure of service history etc yet. $19990 from MS Motorsports Southport.

If anyone has advice on what we should look out for, avoid, or run in the other direction from, I'd be very grateful for some informed input!

We're probably going to need roof racks and a 4 bike rack or a small trailer as well. Mostly road driving, but want to get a bit dirty on the weekends getting to some cool camping spots.

A question on the 7 seaters.. some photos give the impression that there is more space behind the 2 fold down seats that in any model I've seen in the flesh. Is there a difference in any models? Can these seats slide forward at all? It would be nice to fit a dog or some bags behind the last row of seats, but I guess we can live if not. :-) There's always the roof!

Thanks in advance.. hoping to be an owner very soon.

    Wil

I thought I'd post a couple of pics of my last Landy. Well it's actually my dad's, but for a while I claimed the poor unloved beast and got it going well enough to bash around on my block. It had been sitting rusting away for so long (well.. the non aluminium bits anyway) that we had to chainsaw down a small tree to reclaim the canopy door. :-) poor old Grover.

If you could afford it, I personally would be looking at the ome with the lowest k's and the service history this wasy you know that any call backs etc should of been done.....andyou know the car has been cared for by previous owner

Thanks Dullbird, that's what I was thinking also, a big saving is not usually a big saving when it comes to used cars. :-)

Ahh thanks Mike, I probably should have posted this in the Disco chat eh?
    hehe..

Would look at which ones have the center diff mechanism in the front of the transfer case if hooked up or not if the mechanism is their and regardless would look at dropping sump and doing the oil pump bolt the cheaper ones would leave a lot more coin for mods etc happy hunting

Sadly my father is doing a great job of neglecting it, as he has been for a couple of decades now. The last time I actually laid eyes upon Grover, it was under the branches of a fallen tree (see pic), but I am assured no harm was done, and the tree has been harshly dealt with.

I would very much like to restore the ol' beast, but lack the funds / time and live in QLD now. Perhaps he'll part with it eventually and it will go to a good loving home!

    Hey Wil,

And welcome to the forum. I actually got my D2 from Bris 4WD, they also offer a pretty good warranty through AWN. As for the 7 seats....the rear two seats are fixed so do not slide forward.

With all 7 seats up you can fit a small amount of gear between them and at a push some soft gear behind them. Roof racks alleviate the problem as can get luggage bags where all the soft gear can go...or a space case for more robust equipment.

Also important is if the vehicle comes with log books and has it had regular servicing. Other than that it is a great vehicle to drive, we fit 7 in ours and in stock form can get over 750-800kms out of a tank. Though once you start to mod it....that can drop, so currently I get around 700 kms out of a tank,

    Regards

    Hi Stevo,

Thanks for your info, I reckon Bris 4wd are looking pretty good. We're off to have a look at a 7 seat today, sadly it's that gold/silver colour. I could grow to love it I guess..

Roof racks just became a must.
