Marital harmony - got some training

Not sure how many of you have partners that get thin lipped/panic/have a death grip on the seats/etc when out four wheel driving, but my missus was one of these. Good cause of 'disputes' and tension.

Well today Mrs Spud did an all day 4WD course (with the Land Rover Register of Sth Aust) and now she knows about diff locks, low ratio, reverse hill starts and how to go up and down steep things in a controlled manner.

It was the first time she'd had a go off road. Prior to today she'd always make me drive and never have a go, but the instructors wouldn't let her bottle out and encouraged her to give each obstacle a go.

She even quite enjoyed herself when she didn't think she was going to!

Well worth the cost of the training, and now if something happens to me like I break my leg or whatever while we are out and about she knows how to drive the Landie.

So - if your navigator is one of these more timid types, get them some training and they can see it's not so bad when you know what's going on.

I can see it's going to make for more harmonius off-road trips.

    Cheers
    David

Some pics with Graham the trainer talking her down, but they don't look nearly as steep as they actually were (why is it always like that?).

Just after she'd started down the hill and said several 'oh my God's'.....

    A good day out

We always encourage the 'other half' to get behind the wheel on training days. It's really great to see their confidence in themselves and the vehicle build throughout the day ...................... the only trouble is that the guys usually have trouble getting the keys back!!

Well done and a brilliant move...

Being a passenger is OK ... But not brilliant

I have been giving my 13 year old the wheel as soon as we get to the tracks, and they love it ... They do the easy stuff at this stage, and appreciate the 4x4 experience even more

About 12-15 years ago I wrote a manual, devised and presented a beginner's 4X4 course for the SES. I found the females far more cognitive than the blokes!

Mrs Hymie takes the wheel at any opportunity, I put her through a 4WD course a few years back and it was great for her confidence, (and the lessons were listened to.)
I feel better knowing that if I get crook or break a leg or something stoopid like that somebody else can drive out of wherever we are.
