    Tuff Truck Challenge 09 - what a weekend! :)

So who else made it to TTC09??

I got there on friday arvo, just in time to setup and in a good enough position to sit on the roof of my county and watch the mud races.

With it being my first tuff truck I was shocked by the number of people there, litterally 1000s of trucks from all over, all makes, some stock, some modified to the point being highly illegal.

Upon arrival we circled the camp grounds searching for Chris(Lokka) who had saved us a spot, that little drive around the campsite alone was incredible, so many vehicles, and the multi coloured county on 37s was getting some interested looks of its own.

The mud races friday night saw some awesome drives, including the red bitch (2 door RRC) get the best time off all the cars on that track i beleive, it also included a drive by "the mog" which dug the holes out for everyone else when he got stuck, this caused a few others to roll over the the mud holes and it was till around 20-25 cars later and the next night(sat night) that someone else made it through, that was a yellow rangie ute running only 37s(the smallest tyre in the comp, most are on 42-46s) and what i think was the best drive of the whole TTC09, it had the whole crowd roaring with cheers after seeing 25 other cars fail to make it through that hole.

Saturday morning saw a late start for us(catching up on 4 hours sleep a night all week for me), finally getting up to the comp area to find we had missed the ramp travel comp and some of the first runs of the day including several roll overs and breakages, but thankfully more action and carnage wasnt far off.

The courses they had setup were quite extreme, it was hard to beleive what i was seeing as many vehicles made short work of the tracks, and others took little naps on the side of the track(dont worry i have pics)

Being a rover fan, i was trying to follow the 2 rangies(the red bitch and the thornton home hardware rangie) also the red series II running portal axles and the highly modified bush rangie. I was most impressed by the yellow rangie, probobly the least modified vehicle in the whole comp running the smallest tyres but still he managed to rack up some very impressive runs doing things that some of the other extremely modified trucks couldnt do.

Saturday night saw more mud runs with only 3-4 completing the course after the carnage by the mog the night before, with the 2 rovers that ran that night, the yellow rangie and its run of the weekend along with the bush rangie but some of the few that made it. The was also a run through the mud by the Army mog at the end of the night which of course got stuck and had to be recovered by the 12 tonne armour plated bush master, that was an impressive bit of gear.

Sunday morning came, once again we were late to get moving missing some of the action but we still managed to get there in time for several more unbeleivable runs and impressive rollovers/carnage.

Of all the vehicles that enter, Peter Antunak's custom beastie was unstopable,, purpose built for the competition from the ground up for this comp i beleive he ended up with a perfect score and complete every course including the mud course (even after it had been destroyed by the mog)

All in all, it was a bloody awesome weekend and i will be back again for the next one without a doubt, it may not be everyones cup of tea but its well worth a look for anyone 4wd lover.

Heres a few pics from my 10-12gb worth i took, these are just the few good ones i have found so far on my 2nd 8gb card i started to fill! i still have heaps more to come...

the IIa on heart break hill

And a White patrol taking a nap on the same course

    Or from a different angle

I can see myself in your photos (just) so I suppose you must be in mine.

Unfortunately I didn't think it really cut it as a spectator sport, everything seemed to go too slow, and with too much happening (or not) at the same time. Generally I was a bit disappointed, and would have been even more so if we had paid to get in.

Cheers mate, it was an awesome w.e! was my fourth year going and i will be going every year from now! It was good to catch up with you guys of the forum have a beer and meet some fellow army vehicle enthusiasts.

There was as you say plenty of rollovers and even some engine fires , Did you get to see Red bitch take a heavy roll over on the track which you have photos of run a muck on? i am guessing you would as they ran pretty much one after the other

Yes it can be a bit slow between runs, saturday had alot more action, it was best to be down near the other tracks, that way you could see atleast 2-3 trucks running at any one time.

    there i am.

Would of one of your mates been Paul as i was with him at the time and he stated someone was on there way and would be annoyed they missed it?!

Yeah sorry about that i didn't think to bring the disco round so you could have a look, not much to look at its just 2inch lift 31" muddies and a straight through exhaust plus the usual bull bar uhf spotties and a camel trophy sticker on the bonnet
