Im not a doctor...but I would suggest you go see one if you suspect something with the ticker. You shouldn't mess around...
Angus
This question is directed to anyone in the medical profession:
I was wondering yesterday as I was climbing a really steep mountain path on my MTB that I have been on since I was 18, at what age should one stop pushing your body and heart to the maximum.
At 37 I dont feel any different going up these hills but sometimes I get just a slight little "cramp" that feels like it's in the ticker.
Maybe the body is telling me to take the easier route to the top or am I just being a sissy.
Any of the medical guru's with some sound advice.
Rgds

Mate the human body is like the Landy every so many km needs a full service and inspection for RWC![]()
Max pulse varies with age.
Re chest cramps - I would most definately see a doctor to get it checked and if need be then have it sorted now. My mum has had people on the table in their early 30's full of heart disease.

Is the heart just like any other muscle that can just get a cramp when working hard?
Would one have any other symptoms if it were a heart problem.
Going to see a quack about something elsthis arvo - will ask if he has an excersize bike and an ECG machine.
p.s If I don't reply tmrw you'll know I never made it up the hill this PM![]()

bloke i whent to school with, many moons ago, died on the indoor cricket court at 26. major heart attack. he was fit. get it checked...
The heart is a muscle and also an organ. Cramps in any muscle is an indication of a build up of lactic acid - sign that the muscle is being overworked as it is not getting enough oxygen and electrolytes.
Do you have heart trouble in your family history?
Are you a smoker?
Your body naturally flexes when you walk you a steep landscape. You may find yourself slouching a little as there is a need to lower your natural center of gravity for greater stability plus walking up a hill a more work. But doing it on MBTs!!!! - is not so smart.Although they are known to make your muscles work harder, improve posture, give great pins, turn your spread sheet into hot buns - they are best used on flat surfaces. Up a hill on MBTs over time may displace your pelvic girdle and cause back problems. My best bet the next time you want to do this hill again walk in normal tracky shoes.
Guys have given you the best advice - go and see a doc! Hope all will be good.

Not sure of what an MBT is but I was talking MTB (Mountain Bike)
Don't smoke and no family heart problems - most relatives on me mums side made 100 years old.
Slunnie - things are looking up as your description are none familiar symptoms to what I had. Just one slight squeeze in the chest and went away and did'nt come back.
Lets see what the quack says in 2 hours time.
