    300tdi timing belt klms???

    Do we stick at the factory recommended 80,000kms?

    I remember a friend saying its better changed at 60,000...

    Any thoughts?

    I thought the factory was 120,000 but change at 80,000.

    When I purchased mine it had 103,000 on it and I had it changed within a week as I had read all the horror stories about if it goes .

    Justin Cooper is the man for the best answer, he is on the forum and has a workshop at Kingston.

    I think 80000km is acceptable, from memory i thought it was 100000km or 120000km and it was changed to 80000km, but alot of people change them at 60000km to be sure.

    Brian,
    Your 300tdi can go forever on its timing belt as the Magnets you have also increase the life of the timing belt.....

    They are a great thing......

    I bought my 300 TDi Defender second hand from a local dealer.

    I couldn't see any evidence in the service records of when the belt was last changed so the dealer made a few phone calls to LR dealers and to places that had serviced the vehicle in the past.

    He got three different answers about when it should be changed. So good luck in trying to get a definitive answer.

    I got him to change mine before I bought it.

    1973 Series III LWB 1983 - 2006
    1998 300 Tdi Defender Trayback 2006 - often fitted with a Trayon slide-on camper.
