Personally I'd not put a roofrack on the PUMA, that's the end of parking in the city -
and also their roof structures are not really brilliant long term with a rack. You'll end up with cracked gutters.
One of the better things I've had on a leased Fender is a Long Range Fuel tank.

Under body wax is a good option - Get this done by the dealer. But ask to inspect the chassis before it goes of to be undersealed and get them to fix the paint on the welds where it has cracked and peeled.

Many companies have a limit on the price of the car and acc. Otherwise it gets Lux car tax. This does limit the acc's you can get.

Melville and Moon Seat covers are well worth it.

IMHO Light protectors are a useless. The only times I've impacted them on my vehicles I've ended up with some expensive panel damage. I'd rather replace a $5 lense than have to unbend the rear panels on a fender.
they crack on all defenders.......we have a roof rack just be choosey where you park in the city

if you have a roof rack it makes it easier to hang an awning etc and carry things from bunningsa that you cant get in the back....they come in a lot more use than just touring trips
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Thanks all for your help. I spoke to the dealer he advised that with the seven seat optin and metalic paint I was bordering on LCT. He also advised taking the defender as standard then adding later. I guess this will have to be! Unfortunatly there are no santorini black 7 searers in Oz. There are 3 on the ship that left the UK in march he is going to try and get a hold of one, otherwise I have to wait unto one built in June is shipped. I am sure either way it will be worth it.

One more question. Is there anything I 'must' add before I take the bog standard defender off road, the first thing I will do after a 4x4 course is head to Fraser for the weekend.

Thanks again you have bee great.

    "short drive" on the beach.

Snorkel, UHF, side steps (wife's option) and M&M seat covers fitted, but otherwise it was bog standard.

The green one and the Tdi were a bit more added to, but not a lot.

I'd do some rustproofing before Fraser and give it a very thorough clean after, especially inside the box sections.

No 'must' adds really needed on a Defender unless you are doing serious rock climbing then a steering guard. If I did it again first thing would be rock sliders, as much for car park door hits as rock scrapes.

Very important,as the paint job on the chassis of the Puma that my son has is extremely poor

There is already rust spots on many of the chassis welds ,some of them around 6mm in diameter, hasnt been back to the dealer yet for an inspection....is going soon.Only done 300km,hasnt been near the beach.

The chassis paint on my TD5 is way better.
He is gonna get the electronic rust thingy on it,as it will be on the beach a bit.

Definatly get the front floor mats, it takes no time at all for the heal of your work boots to wear a hole in the standard flooring.

I have always been skeptical of those things, but many people swear by them .
My sons mate has a Rodeo that is regularly on the beach,is never washed or for that matter looked after & doesnt have any rust on it.It has one of the electronic things on it.
For me i have always had mine coated by the Ming product, but they seem to put less on these days.I have done a lot of beach work & never had any problems, but you do have to keep a good eye on everything & any spots i use fisholine. My brother uses a Lanolin product, which seems to work well.

I will say one thing,as said ,the paintwork on the chassis on the brand new Puma is absolutely disgracefull

    Options nearly on Order..

Guys, Just on the final step of ordering my new Defender..

I got prices for a couple of options and wanted to know what you thought, these are dealer prices for genuine parts including fitting.

black chequer plate kit including wing tops: $1895
    Expedition Roof Rack: $2300
    Snorkel $1800

I will source a bull bar and winch from somewhere else as they will only supply and fit the A frame Bar.

Do you think this is expensive? I am still going to salary package it so probably wont make a great deal of difference to the cost.

    Thanks
    Patrick
