I'm surprised the limit is 100Km/H, it never used to be. I think limiting hire vehicles to 5 seats makes the most sense though.

The speed limit is being reported everywhere as being 100km/hr...
But from the Queensland Environment and Resource management web site...
Normal road rules apply
All inland roads, vehicle tracks and beaches are designated roads and normal road rules apply. Police patrol all areas of Fraser Island. Speed checks and breath testing can happen at any time of day. Maximum allowable blood alcohol level for drivers in Australia is .05.
Speed limits on the island:
- 40km/hr shared zones on the eastern beach
- 80km/hr on the eastern beach
- 50km/hr on Hook Point inland road
- 35km/hr on all other inland roads.
But always drive to suit conditions.
Only use indicators when overtaking or turning. Keep to the left of oncoming vehicles at all times.
Pity the journalists don't seem to be able to get the simplest of facts right..

There will be a press release now saying they have "Reduced the speed limit to 80" :)
You can rent a 4wd but you can't rent experiance:(
My nephew hired a troopie in Hervey bay. Within 100m they realised something was wrong and found very loose wheel nuts.
Went back to complain and were accused by the hire company of not looking after the vehicle properly. They had only had it 15mins:eek:
