what are vulcanising patches :p
Aaaaah!
I must be just the right age - I've got the whole kit including the special clamp and the little cheese grater, but never used any of it. Funnily enough, I rarely had any flats. The kit has been moved to my "museum" section. All my cars are tubeless now and my last flat was on the Falcon a few weeks ago where a bolt destroyed the tyre. On bikes and prams up here we use that tyre goo that seals them up for good and works well.
My experience a few years ago when I went to put a vulcanizing patch on a tube was that it would not stick :censored:thought my old patches had gone off or something.
I was told by the tyre bloke I went to that the old vulcanizing patches no longer work on modern tubes because there is now a lot more styrene in the rubber compound now used.
Chemical glue is the only way with modern tubes

Ooh! yes, Jaguars and Rollers  what a pain to demount.
So what about fuse wire for the porcelain fuses in the house's fuse box? It was also handy to solder into the car's blown glass fuses on a weekend when all the auto parts places were closed on a weekend. OK, some servos also sold fuses and globes, but often they closed on a weekend too!
Aah! yes, 3AG glass fuses :) easily fixed by cigarette foil wrapped around it ???? amps also helped the smoke escape from the wires :wasntme:
Yup! most young blokes had a .22 rifle until PC and Govt took them away:(
