Thumbs up Something Free (a place to camp)

    Hi Everyone

I am a fairly new contributor to the various forums on the site but have something that may interest members who camp.

We own a property 25mins from Townsville @ Herveys range. It is only small (3 acres) but is a great spot to camp. We use it as a weekender with the occasional midweek stay. It is dog friendly and has hot showers and toilets that flush. It can be a good base camp to explore Herveys range west to charters towers and north to paluma. Now, we don't charge to camp there overnight and welcome any company that come along. All we ask is that you let us know in advance that you are coming. You can't fish there or play golf, shoot things or ride noisy motorbikes but it is quiet and peaceful and close to townsville. The property slopes down to a creek and has a couple of flat spots for carryvans. It is cold this time of the year and there ius a campfire spot that is great to sit around. On the property is a shed and a 80yo restored farmhouse.

Have a look at the pics and let us know if any of you are interested.

Now there's an offer that could put hope into those cynical about human generosity.

Well done, wish i was closer by, look like a nice spot.

Thanks for such a kind and generous offer. I live up in Kuranda and am planning on intoducing my 3.5 year old (and wife) to camping this year so may well revisit this further down the track.

On the other hand you did suggest peace and quiet are required and he is 3.5 years old!!!

Most certainly. Many cyclists use the range as a training ride from Townsville. Horses are welcome as well. The property is fully fenced with a horse trough as well. There are many trail rides around the place as well.

    Thanks for posting.

Might look at that on our way in to Townsville in early July. Will probably come through Mt Surprise, Mt Fox and Running River though then down from Paluma to the coast. See how things go.

Angry Might want to miss running river

Curtain Bros. have fired up the Mt Moss mine again. All the camping between Paluma and Herveys range along the old road has been banned.

Not good. The old road is now a daily graded 4 lane dirt road with signs every 100mtrs telling you you cannot camp. And they enforce it with regular patrols.
