and tonight, I have the pleasure of learning (again) not to trust the word of some other mechanics if they are selling you a car.
on the advise of the seller that the lack of power is just the timing isnt advanced enough because the vac advance is hitting on the water pump. I went and redid the orientation and timing of the dizzy...

if you have a 3.5 V8 with twin strombergs BOTH strombergs must be hooked up to the throttle linkage or you wont make full power.
Im assuming that whoever set them up got the instructions from "The deranged ADHD stoned monkey on acids guide to screwing up carby settings"
