Are we being conned about Global warming.

I keep hearing how we are so polluting the atmosphere that the world is heating up to the point that with in 50 years ( or 100 years, depending on who’s spin you believe ) the oceans will rise and the air will be unbreathable.

We have been polluting the world ever since we started the industrial revolution.

There are few problems with some of the crap ( my opinion ) that is being put forward as a means to scare us into thinking that we are the prime cause of the current situation.

Don’t get me wrong, I firmly believe the world is warming up, but not for the reasons being used by won’t-to-bes trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.

If the industrial revolution is the cause of this global warming, why is it that during Queen Elizabeth I reign, she would go for walks on the Thames River in winter when it regularly froze, and for some 200 years the were markets held on the frozen Thames, for a few months every year and these markets were so common the had there own name, the Frost Festival.

Freezing of the Thames River on an annual basis stopped over 200 years ago, at the very beginning of the industrial revolution, certainly way before any industrial activity had reached a level where it could have had the slightest effect on whether patens.

Furthermore, why is it that we keep hearing about how the ice shelf in Antarctica is breaking up, yet little to no media coverage has been give to the fact that the ice coverage on the opposite side of Antarctica is now thicker than it has ever been.

There are weather shifts occurring and the world’s temperature is rising but it is more likely a natural event and far less to do with our behaviour.

    Anyway, what do others think.

I know the doom sayers and the Inconvenient Truth season ticket holders will howl me down as a climate change skeptic but for what my two bobs worth, I think it is a simple matter of using the stats wrongly to justify a cause.

The scientists are using climate info based on such a small sample and timeframe as to make it next to worthless. There have been climate variations since the dawn of time, ice ages global warming and vice versa. When I was a kid back in the 60s I remember vividly my teachers saying we were on the verge of another ice age.

Now I am not saying that man's activities are not having any effect and that we need to modify our behaviour but anyone who believes that Katoomba will be a waterfront suburb in 50 or 100 years IS JUST PLAIN DUMB!

Also anyone who thinks that little old Australia adopting a carbon tradings emission scheme will make any difference to the global climate when China India and the rest of the third world are cutting down forests and burning cow dung to cook tea is equally deluded.

The thing I like about this whole issue is that they have brainwashed the kids to the point where they repeat this stuff like some religious doctrine. If they could only teach them to stop taking drugs as well we would all be better off.

I wish I could live long enough to see what they say about the issue in 100 years. I bet they will be shaking their heads and saying "What was that all about".

OK now you can give me a hard time

I also don't believe that it is to do with carbon emissions etc. I think that data may correlate, but that doesn't necessarily mean that there is a cause/effect happening. I also see that the last 12months or so has bucked the global warming trends.

In my opinion, it is a part of a cyclic trend that is greater than the effects from man and industry. No doubt the poles will reverse shortly aswell, and that will be put down to people pouring green cordial down the sink.

Gday, i watched a program on Discovery science a few months ago and the scientist that hosted the show did a great job of debunking this theory, he pointed out the problems with where all the temperatures are recorded, near airports and what’s there lots of pollution, lots of bitumen, concrete and steel, the other area is in the hart of the city, what’s there all the same things. This scientist did his own study in some cities in the states, he set up his instruments in wooded parks not far from the weather bureau’s location and had very different statistics. In the end he has a theory that we are about to head into an ice age as we are around 20,000 years over due.

Are we being conned about Global warming.
Or are we being Conned by the skeptics, who's right.
To the skeptics, go and bury your heads in the sand and it will go away, won't it.
To all the others believe what you want, if the skeptics are right, no problem mate, she'll be right.
If they are wrong we are leaving a great legacy to future generations, that will curse this one, I tend to believe that all the pollution produced around the world has nowhere to go, everything produced on this earth from Day 1 is still here (except for what has been shot into space), so we are all eating, drinking and breathing all the crap that man has ever made, IMHO, Regards Frank.

I hear that line a lot, but it really has no substance.

The real matter is that there needs to be solid information which is absolutely accurate and can withstand any testing that can be thrown at it, rather than something that is politically motivated and completely full of holes. When that is apparent, only then can we be constructive about this, irrespective of which way it goes. I think its dangerous to blindly believe the tainted "data", misinformation and retoric. We will know what is what when the scientist reach a consensis rather than Al Gore presenting the "facts".

and further to what Frank said, there are close to 6 billion of us now, consuming like there's no tomorrow, which may well not happen, if the doomsayers are correct.

Around the time of the Industrial Revolution, there were approximately 500 million people.

    This is interesting, if correct.

Ohhh the bell curve, happens with all sorts like insects that start small and the momentom grows and then it is attacked by preditor or infections and then demise to a small proportion, and then, it grows again.

All that this graph shows, is that temperature movements will increase or decrease the level of carbon dioxide in the air. I thought for a while that the problem may actually be that there are too many people breathing.....

but the temp variations are what created the spike 140,000,000 years ago as seen on the graph.... you know, like way before mans influence....
