Thanks for the update Relay.
Shame about slippery, was a good track.
I'm gathering that a lot of the shutoff's are because a lot of it is National Parks now?

Well I figured, since Watagans is kinda my backyard and all, that I should be the one to bring everyone the update. Granted, I haven't quite covered all the tracks just yet, but Matt and I are working on it all over again.
Closures are as follows:
Slippery Rock Road
Old Slippery Rock Road
One Tree Hill - closed at the top. I believe you can still drive up and down it, but the charming fellow who bought the property at the top has put two locked gates on Cooranbong Fire Trail...
Master's Hill - I'm not sure what everyone else calls this...but it's the track off Pringles Road. I think the property the track went through has changed hands, and the new owner has installed gates.
Fun bits:
Other than the usuals...
Rope Road - yeah it's a usual...but to my shock at least the downhill run is still open. I didn't quite make the gate tonight...I'm planning on going back when it's a bit drier and seeing whether the gate at the bottom is still open.
Boundary Forest Road - the road that runs pretty much from the end of Yambo Rd through to Morisset is now severely washed out...and quite a bit of fun, if you're not a fan of your paintwork. I'll post up a vid later when it's uploaded.
Yambo Road - is not quite the masterpiece it used to be...but it's awefully wet right now
Lemon Tree Road - has been graded recently in parts. And while that might make you pull your hair out sometimes...right now the mud is simply hilarious, and the ride along there gets quite hairy in places. Some nice ruts, for those of us on big wheels.
Last but not least, Watagan Forest Road seems to have been graded in the wet. It would work better if you had ice-skates right now...
Thanks for the update Relay.

What about Sawpit. Its a great hard run that is of the right hand side of Sawpit Rd. Did it 5-6 years ago and was more than challengingIs it still there or has the entrance overgrown and vanished.

Dammit!
Slippery rock was a great track![]()
As far as I know, sawpit is still open. I believe the one you're thinking of has some pretty substantial rock steps in it? Am I recalling correctly Justin? I'll have to consult my maps.
It is pretty disappointing, the closure of Slippery Rock. I'll get onto NPWS tomorrow if I get a chance and ask them if it'll be permanent or not.
I'm not sure if we can solely blame NPWS for the road closures that are listed. I know for a fact that both One tree Hill and Master's Hill both traversed through private property...I'm not sure what the legalities are of a 'fire trail' through private property, but it's a common occurance for new owners to make the decision to close them. On the other hand, yes, NP have been closing a few tracks...how long for, is any man's guess. Probably forever, but that's to be seen.
Anyways... The vid of Boundary Forest Road I promised. Granted, it's Nev, our Rocky, that hasn't been out in quite a long time. And the vid doesn't quite do it justice. The plan was, with the bank on the down-side the car couldn't technically roll...so once the doors started scraping, I stopped worrying!

Yep thanks for that.
Are Zig Zag & Hell Hill closed off as well?
re Sawpit, last time I checked about a year ago it was obvious no-one had been through for a long, long time. It would need chainsaws to clear it - but that's another issue isn't it.

Zig-Zag & Hell Hill?
Describe em to me. I have issues remembering proper and colloquial names of places.
Sawpit's a bit deceptive. There's the actual road (that's full of bog holes...and tears.) And there's the cutout (which I think isn't actually Sawpit, but it opposite the sawpit intersection. I'll need to go down there and check em out for you.
The actual track we used to call Sawpit ran off Sawpit rd. I think heading west down one of the main roads you turn left into Sawpit rd. About 500M in you turn to the right,Through some vegatation and a turn to the left down hill and you had 3-4 bog holes to get through to get to the start of the track. Twin lockers and winches were needed to access the start.
does this ring any bells.

Last time I went along Boundary Forest road, it wouldn't have been a concern in a Corrola.
I'm afraid we will loose access to many tracks in the Watagans due to people damaging them in the wet.
The following was received on Friday 5th.
... that we have to close Watagan Forest Rd through Watagans NP due to rain and vehicle damage as of today. Also Lemon Tree Road is impassable in Jilliby SCA due to 4WD damage. ...

I haven't been there in the past few days, but so far as I know, Lemon Tree Passage is still open, (no gates and no signs that I've found), but the regular ruts are getting rather long and large again...we almost lost the Scat there last week, and I snatched a certain other brown County out with the Rocky too. Watagan Forest Road (which is pretty much the main drag) has been re-opened, and from what I can see, re-graded...they were right to close it, as after the rain and recent grading the majority of it's surface had turned to ice.
Rope Road update...I actually went to the bottom this time. The holes at the bottom before the fence are substantial, and really only suitable for those who like a lot of mud. There is an alternate route though, through the first gate rather than the second. Further along the track (before the log bridge though) there is a huge tree over the track, and the bog holes on the way are getting bigger. Someone has built a track around the tree, but it's not really appropriate for our Rocky...the County -might- make it...has several diff hanging and ledge points. From there on, I dont know. I didn't bother keeping on walking.
Creek road, is no longer a through road...it's been closed off and left blocked after they finished logging there. The road below Creek road (I cant think of it's name right now) has a shiney logging gate...so I believe that area will be closed off for a while yet.
Scout hall loop track is still a lot of fun, though heavily rutted. Scout hall bog-holes are bigger and better than ever...you'd have to be serious to head down there...Actual Scout Hall has a sign...that Hunter four wheel drive association (or something like that) is trying to acquire it's lease. So I'm not sure what they are planning on doing down there. We shall see.
