    That looked a bit interesting.

I take it you couldn't drive up the slope without assistance.

i couldnt even move the vehicle. the slope wasnt steep but was that greasy you could hardly even stand up without slipping over. thought about disconnecting the caravan, but for sure would not have been able to get it out even if i did get the car out. the cruiser didnt need give it much, just enough to get me moving so i could pull up the slope.

The guy in the cruiser did that very well as went nice and wide to allow you to get purchase of the black top quicker. Its hard for AT and HT tyres in that clay with a caravan in tow. If you were stranded I think you would have got out by taking that weight off the back. Then drag the van slowly up with the snatch strap you should have in your touring kit.
This sort of thing happens to me here a lot in these hills. I now carry two snatch straps, a light chain, a Hi lift jack and a shovel. Always seem to get out of strife some how.

i had the shovel out and the sand mats and the caravan half disconnected when this guy came along and said he would pull me out. my idea was to try and drive out then pull the caravan out backwards with my snatch strap. luckily i didnt need to in the end
al is good and a good experience for me.

It's such a bad feeling when you realise you ain't moving anywhere.

Had a similar thing happen on the Hay Plains. Innocuous looking side road, that had quite a camber. Even 10psi in the tyres didn't help. Had to get towed out by a local farmer

Glad you got out without too much drama.

Just as a matter of interest, whereabouts was this? (Lot of road between Broken Hill and Port Macquarie!)

From the caravan tyre track, it looks like the caravan wasn't braking. Does it have over-ride brakes, or other?

Glad it was all sorted OK.

its got override brakes, that aren't fantastic, but even so you will notice about halfway down the car tyre tracks change direction, that was when i nailed it to see if i could drive it through, but it made almost no difference to where i ended up.
