Got a brand new, unused mitchalin spare from 1990 when it was new. It is on a rim that has never been on a car [unless of course the previous owner purchased a brandnew matching rim and tyre] the 4 road tyres were new when I got the RRC, but of course I do not know how long these road tyres were on the shelf before they were put on car. Have at home, on sunraysia rims, a pair of silver stone tyres that have been on 3 different RRC fronts and are not worn out yet. they would be about 4-6 years old. Might reuse these on the rear later.

well all I can say is after reading the mileage you guys get from non coopers tyres that their brag of 90k is nothing. I personally have put over 90k on two sets of venturers (each) and now look like doing same with geolanders and I run 46psi unless I'm in the paddocks. the coopers guys argued like hell with me at the recent gold coast 4wd show about my tyre pressures and mileage I have been getting......but theyre just young fellas and know it all, hahaha
You just made me remember that in the shed I have a 235/85-16 BFG mud terrain with 80-90% tread. When I bought my Trac Edges in 1996 I bought it 2nd hand as a spare!!! So it is over 13 years old!!! I only used it once, when I had a blowout on one of my (2yo at the time) Trac Edges.Quote:

I recently purchased a set of factory alloys for my 98 TDi Disco, whereby the steel rims became a spare set to fit some BFG AT's onto in good time when I have the money.
Anyways the tires that came with the alloys, according to the codes, are 12-13 years old. They're Michelin XPC's, and have at least 80% left in them. They also don't seem that hard, are lovely and quiet, and are fine in the wet and on bitumen as far as I can tell. At this stage I've been using them as my town tyres, knowing that I will have to use the steelies with yet to be purchased BFG's for any high speed and off road work.
My question is, if I have a prang, will the insurance company be likely to check the tyre age, or simply note that the tyres look almost new as far as the tread goes and then be ok with that?

I just checked the spare 285/75-16 that I bought for the IIA in December 2007. I was surprised that it was date stamped mid 2004!!!
I bought it from Ryano at Fourbys Moorooka. Very Cheap. Highly Recommended!!!
