My 2a has some modest soundproofing.

    1. Seals on the bonnet sides
    2. Fit neoprene self adhesive seals to all floor/seatbox joints
    3. Transmission tunnel cover off late S3
    4. Cab roof sound absorption lining of late S3
    5. Deluxe trim on doors
    6. ensure all holes in the bulkhead are blocked using new rubber plugs etc.
    7. New gasket under pedal boxes
    8. Adjust tappets
    9. 10mm closed cell foam on the underside of the seat box lids.
    10. Rubber floor mats cut to fit.

Result is little engine noise, most obvious noise is transfer case, overdrive and depending on surface, tyre noise, plus wind noise as the speed rises. Fixing air leaks on the standard door seals is probably impossible, but I can probably improve it.

Forklift battary box rubberized paint is what you need,Lancing Bagnall used to sell it(used it when servicing them some years ago) good finish and sound proofs good for hosing out the inside.

    Soundproofing

The title is a bit of a spoof. Soundproofing and Defender do not belong in the same sentance. However if you do a search under "Soundproofing, Defender" you will get many threads. I have worked on mine, and have a thread in the projects and tutorials section listed as "Sound insulation for Defender"

Doing any work will make a big difference. The biggest thing to think about, is water absorbtion, and rust.

    Good luck,

    Ken
