The placards arent that easy to get.
When I got my polycarbonate"LANDYANDY" numberplates I wasnt about to pop rivit the exsisting LPG placards off my old plates onto my new ones(had a Ser3 on LPG at the time).I was happy to put a sticker style that I could remove later but couldnt get them.I pop rivited the original onto the landy next to my plate.

They should be available from most lpg suppliers (not general fuel stations), lpg fitters and state energy departments as well as licencing and RTA. Bigger ones are available from truck parts suppliers etc
Any signage place usually also stocks them or can make them to size. They must conform to the dangerous goods standards and it is compulsory to display the little diamond that is being discussed. It is only mandatory for large volume carriers to display the full dg placarding.
Generally on approach to any vehicle fire we would treat it as being a possible alternate fueled vehicle until having proved otherwise. There is generally not really an issue as if the lpg unit is serviceable they will generally vent off not explode. It is still possible however if there is a component failure and may lead to a BLEVE.
Usually one plate is identifiable. It is also a good idea to put one on your windscreen and rear window as these are at eye height.
It is actually more of a danger to approach a vehicle that has an invertor set up as 240v and water/firefighting medium do not mix. Fire fighters a fairly well protected from resulting lpg flash or explosion with their level 2 gear if on, but not so from the 240v from an invertor. But hey caravan fires etc with similar set ups are just as dangerous.

the reason that the LPG stickers etc are in centre of front/back plates is because it is a universal place to look...windows break, in the prang and in any intense heat...dont put them on windows for that reason, (unless its an extra sticker?? but then it means 2 tanks...)
it is very rare that both front and rear plates are unusable or unreadable in one prang....therefore number plates (dead centre) is the spot!!

When my SIL converted my P38 to LPG a month or so ago he pop rivetted the little metal plates on to the number plates. I don't know where he got them from - perhaps they came with the kit.
