Medowie, it's 5min to Lavis lane for the beach, 5mins to great tracks in Wallaroo state forest, 20mins to newcastle and a bloody great place to live.
marylands aint to bad but as also mentioned around the lake is a tops area, i grew up at eleebana its a nice place avoid living in or around town thats where the yuppis live avoid windale and gateshead
If you're after somewhere quiet, Morpeth is pretty good. There are quite a few old landies kicking around there as well which is always pleasant.
Medowie is a nice spot, and has some large blocks up to a few acres and some more rural type areas, but its also close to Stockton Beach - you can be on the sand in about 5mins as Wortho said
Yeah, Medowie is OK. I used to live there for 10 years but it would be a bit of a hike into Sandgate each day. Having said that, Medowie is a bit of a hike to just about anything work related except the RAAF base. It is an isolated residential area outside of and to the north of Newcastle - pretty much just housing and housing related infrastructure (schools, pub, golf club, shops etc). Medowie is divided into two by the main road, on one side are rural blocks ~ 1 - 2 acres the other side is large residential blocks ~ 0.5 acres. And there are a few large acreages remnant from the time Medowie was a rural community - orchards & dairy.
Air craft noise from the RAFF base may be a problem at times, it depends upon you. During the time I lived there I can say it never disturbed me. Nevertheless if you do consider Medowie be aware it is only 7 - 8 k from a RAAF base and Newcastle's regional airport.
Further development / growth of Medowie is limited to some extent. It is bounded by a water catchment area land (Grahamstown Dam), the RAAF base land, state forest and a swap so will probably always remain isolated from other residential growth areas in the region.
