It is an isolated residential area outside of and to the north of Newcastle - pretty much just housing and housing related infrastructure (schools, pub, golf club, shops etc). Medowie is divided into two by the main road, on one side are rural blocks ~ 1 - 2 acres the other side is large residential blocks ~ 0.5 acres. And there are a few large acreages remnant from the time Medowie was a rural community - orchards & dairy.
Air craft noise from the RAFF base may be a problem at times, it depends upon you. During the time I lived there I can say it never disturbed me. Nevertheless if you do consider Medowie be aware it is only 7 - 8 k from a RAAF base and Newcastle's regional airport.
Further development / growth of Medowie is limited to some extent. It is bounded by a water catchment area land (Grahamstown Dam), the RAAF base land, state forest and a swap so will probably always remain isolated from other residential growth areas in the region.
