We booked 6 months ago. Sorry to hear you won't be on the boat. Have a good voyage over.
Forgot to mention I exchanged a nice friendly wave with a green Defender with a white roof when passing through Chewton this afternoon. Was it anyone on here?
Hope you enjoy the Bass Strait crossing! Is it your first time?
The ships they have these days (though one is in dry dock for overhaul at the moment), are pretty fast. They can travel at 30 kts, and average 27, allowing a journey time of 9 1/2 to 10 hrs, compared with 13 hrs for the previous ships.
I was in Tassie last week, and, in spite of rough weather, the ride was pretty good. The ships have stabilisers, so there is very little roll.
Cheers,
Lionel
Thanks Lionel, I knew about the dry dock as they have scheduled no sail days listed even at the beginning of the year.
We actually lived in Tassie and crossed Bass Strait back in 92 and returned in 93. I'm sure this ship will be an improvement from 16 years ago. From memory it wasn't long after our return to the big island in 93 that new ships were introduced.
Anyway we are in cold Mooroolbark at present and doing a few things around Melbourne today and tomorrow as well as catching up with friends.
Exchanged a wave with the Defender in Castlemain yesterday pretty sure its the same one we passed the other day in Chewton - its blue, not green.
Well we are on the southern island. Off the boat less than 2 hours and it started to snow:)
Got some pics to post but little internet access at present. On our way to Stanley today staying the night near Boat Harbour. Head down the South West tomorrow.
