Sorry!
I didnt even think about the confusion with the name, people probably expected a landy theme!!... I find it amusing after 20 odd years of public order stuff...(woomera/baxter etc etc) so may have a limited appeal!
our verson of red rover was without the linked arms...
One or two people are "it". "It" stood in the middle of the area (usually a large square), and everyone else lined up at one end.
"It" shouted, "red rover I call over Fred", and Fred tries to get to the other side without getting tagged, if he makes it, as soon as he does everyone ran to try to get to the other end. Anyone tagged stayed to help "It" on the next shot (when everyone simply turns around and is running back across the square- same rules). The first person tagged becomes the caller (picks the first one called) for the next round.
but in essence its the same thing, stopping (by force or tag) someone getting to the other side!
Keeps going until only one left (winner) or last caught.
I've never heard of the game.
