Yes, that is interesting. Do you know what the different coloured rock is?
No mate we don't, pretty sure it's the same just with less contaminant. This Is the first level of a new quarry. We are assuming it is a bubble that was hotter or colder in the lava flow.
As you can see in the photo the rest of the bench is contaminated with clays/dirt. It is a basalt quarry.
It is probably a large Xenolith, that is, a lump of solid rock that was picked up by the molten rock and carried from its original location by the erupting basalt. It may have come from very deep underground, but a definitive answer would sdepend on looking at the rock closely, preferably in thin section.
