Years ago at uni, a a girl walked past with some Chinese characters tattooed on her shoulder. My Singaporean friend looked at me and said - why would a girl tattoo the word 'Petrol' on her shoulder....
Not exactly new, this sort of error - a recent Antique Roadshow item appraised was a very elegant silver teapot, made in England in the eighteenth century, and decorated with a large Chinese character on the side, as was fashionable at the time - the word 'top', and engraved upside down!
