Re the TV, that's about the size of the first oscilloscope I built in the Sixties. For the electronics types, it was nearly all valve as transistors were horribly expensive and were of limited frequency response anyway. An OC71 germanium transistor was about $3 and I was earning $20/week. The picture tube was a 5BP1. Funny what one remembers.
