From memory...some time ago
An elderly couple (bedridden Wife) locked themselves in the bedroom during a violent home invasion. In desperation & fear, Husband eventually discharged a firearm wounding one of the alleged perpetrators...and was nearly charged/found guilty/locked up for life.
Certainly made to feel the villain.
We're beyond the nanny-state.
Despite all that has been said about the gun culture in the US, sometimes I think that allowing citizens to easily aquire handguns has it's advantages.
Let's face it, crims can still get their hands on handguns even though they are illegal on the black market. Wielding a handgun here represents ultimate power. On the other hand in the US, as a crim you never know who is "packing a piece", as per the video - so everybody is on a more even playing field there.
Outlaw guns and only the outlaws will have guns, this is a very old saying but true. I have breakfast at a coffee shop where a guy who used to own a antique store has breakfast. He shot at two lots of armed robers, the second time was a failed revenge job. Anyway, armed robbery in Queensland droped by around 45% for 3 months after that.
