Same thing happened to a small bridge on a back road near Cowarr in Victoria near where I lived some years ago. The empty log trucks used the road as a rat run, even though the 60 year old timber bridge was clearly marked 'Gross Limit 4 tonnes'. They got away with it for a couple of years until one morning a bedraggled truck driver knocked on a local farmers door and said his truck was in the creek - when the farmer wandered up to have a look, the truck was indeed in the creek, some 5 meters below the road level - still on what was left of the bridge....
Hard to deny that one - the logging companies insurance payed for a lot of the replacement bridge, but it was a PITA for the 9 months that road was closed as the detour added nearly 10KM each way to the trip into town...
