My guess is that the cameras will continue to issue fines as they are civilian operators who view to images and as we know they can take 3 months to issue them so the Government will just backlog them for the week.

The 6KPH over the limit is now only 1 point and $87 fine Demerit points scheme probably not worth the effort in the systems time.

Now come on... get real. They have invested millions and millions of dollars of profits to brainwash you all into thinking that exceeding a speed limit by 10% is as dangerous as going out and getting utterly smashed, and then driving your unroadworthy B-Double home (un-belted) while having someone you love perform a sex act on you for more than 2 hours without a break. They need to come to a corner near me. Almost no one stops at the stop sign when turning left - and I'm not talking "rolling stops" - it's straight up and around with no hesitation. This is in suburbia outside the local shopping centre.

I don't know... maybe it's different in NSW but up here in Brisbane once you've done your driving test stop signs are interchangeable with giveway signs. I can't remember when I last saw stop signs being enforced. The BCC busses I travel on don't even bother stopping for stop signs.

As I've said before, as long as you don't speed on QLD roads you can pretty much do whatever you like with impunity. If you drive a bit it's likely that you will have your speed checked a sometimes a couple of times in a day, and there is an outside chance you might get checked for drink driving once every few months (dependant on where you live) but it's unlikely.

A certain relative of mine would go through enough stop signs in one trip to loose her licence. When I mention this she just shrugs and who am I to say as she's been doing it for 20 years without getting told off.

That is a pet hate of mine Ron...I've seen what failing to stop at a stop sign can do....:no2::mad:

As mentioned, it's because the cops aren't out there. I drove from Jindabyne to Sydney some weeks ago now, and did not see one highway patrol vehicle or any marked police vehicle whatsoever. Same coming back from Lithgow the other weekend.

Agreed, Mick. As an occasional motorcyclist, I am always on the look out for it, especially when riding. I don't want to bne the subject of "I didn't see you". How can they when they don't stop and look?

I work in the Blue Mountains. I don't worry about police on the highway. They are never there (except for long weekends).

However, last week on the 1st July when the new fines/penalties came into effect, there were 5 HWP cars near the M7/M4 jubction. There were 3 sitting eastbound on the M4 just west of the M7/Wallgrove Rd, another in the median on the M7 just north of the Gt. Western Hwy, and another on the M7 just before Horsley Drive. :eek:

I passed the first HWP car on the M4. He didn't pull out to follow me even though I was over the limit and passing cars. Then I saw the other two HWP cars and thought, "I'm gone, he's radioed ahead!" :(

But no! They were busy with other drivers so I was able to swing onto the M7 without being pulled over. :)

Motorways - in most cases - are safe as houses for traveling 140kph or so. Having driven on the autobahns in Germany and also the motorways through Holland, we are way behind the times.
