New Bunyip State park closed for 5 months every year with out community consultation!
On the front page of The Baw Baw Trader news paper (Vol 2. no 21 July 9, 2009) the DSE and Parks Vic have closed Bunyip State Park because of the fires which is fine but now decided to close it from Queens Birthday to Cup Day weekend EVERY year which is only going to keep people away from it for good.
They did this recent move with out any warning or community consultation or support, all under the disguise of Black Saturday fire recovery which I personally think is appauling, to group a decision by gutlessness on the back of a such a horrific fire while others are donating so much time and money, this is our thanks from the government.
We are loosing another park for horse and motor bike riding plus 4wding. Its a good article but really only based from a Horse riding point of view.
Maybe time to hand over my keys to a redundant and atiquated state government and tell them to shove them up .
Or maybe someine can explain what I am not seeing
I haven't seen this article, is it permanent or just for this year?
If it is permanent, this is typical of the city based theorists in decision making theorists who never get out of the CBD. The same applies to the recent sanitizing of the Barmah state forest becoming a national park, where no wood can be removed and cattle now banned from any grazing, so all that will be needed next summer to clear the undergrowth will be a dry day, north wind and a spark

No it is permanent so every year from Queens Birthday to Melb Cup weekend. Yep it will be let go once the recovery is in full swing..
We live in Upper Beaconsfield and love it but now are still very worried as the dandenongs are protected by a heavy police protection over summer months and Bunyip is burnt out so Cockatoo and our area is the only unprotected and unburnt area around for miles so it leaves us in a position of uncertainty even though I have 9 years in the CFA until 4 years ago I am still on edge. Do we move permanently or move out over summer which we did last summer about five times but the politicians are too comfortable in the CBD to see the real world so I do agree with you..
Thanks for the update of what they are doing at present but no word on the future annual closure issues arising from the earlier article. All that is a bit of what is expected for this season and possible next to help all concerned.
Did you get a copy of the above paper? I still have it but it is in the recycling at the moment. It all stinks a bit
Thanks again for the update
No worries on the update, thought a few might find it useful.
I don't get the trader, it's not delivered in our part of town, at least I've never received one in the last 5 years.
We get notified of permanent closures at work and it hasn't hit the radar.
