Thread: High lift jack mount positions

hiya does the disco have a bull bar (non-winch) ? lay it horizontal between the grill and the bumper bar and weld some retainers to it paint it up again all good yay !!!

Im going down the same road atm if your not towing a trailer you can buy a holder which slots into your tow hitch and the jack lays across the back bumper.And it can be mounted on the rear wheel carrier as well.Ive just bought one of ebay should show up this week.All i need is a jack lol.

I would love to see a pic when it turns up even with out the Jack. I like that idea it sounds safer than inside the cabin. I dont have a bull bar that I can mount it. The only other position is underneath the sills but I can remember where I saw that idea.

Probably wouldn't be much good to you under the sill if you get stuck,,,,how would you get it out to use it?
I used to lay mine down inside along the back door, but that would interfere with draws etc.

Yes Chops I was thinking that as it would be easy to access but my only concern is whether the 9mm ply back door panel is strong enough in the event of an accident. The position would be as low as possible along the door.
I am thinking of steel plates behind ply panel say 70mm square and welding a bolt to it and mounting the jack to those bolts with smaller steel plates as washers! Would this be safe enough?

Not probably much help for you but this is what I did, I welded a stud into them that goes through the holes in the rack of the jack.

You could if you needed, have a piece on the back floor so the jack rested on it to take some of the weight off the door,,(a bit like the "rest" used for a spare wheel carrier).

Mine was actually just on the "floor" just inside the back door lying down, not on the door itself.
I will be making a roofrack for mine a bit later this year maybe, which is where I'll probably end up putting it, but I may also just bolt it straight onto the very back of the roof above the door. Im not worried about drilling into the body, the car has to get me around Aust, so it all has to be accessable and practical.

Is this the one sold by Hobzee and a few others?

I emailed Hobzee and they replied saying it doesn't suit LR stud patterns even though all the ads by others say it did.
I didn't pursue it any further as he also gave the dimensions of the bracket which would not have suited the mags I have anyway.

I'd be interested to hear if it does fit the stud pattern though. Surely you could drill some more holes if needed though.
I was thinking it may fit a D1 PCD but not D2 or vice versa but I never asked.
