do people mount lights so thay protrude below the bull bar ?
I see more and more of this around. there's a set in the normal place with another smaller set mounted in front and below - just waiting to be ripped off in the first rut.
Anyone who goes offroad a bit would never do this.
( sorry if anyone here has their lights like this )

Saw a guy in a Jeep something yesterday with that exact same setup.
He had two driving lights below the front bar almost at either end and a big set of unmarked muddies to boot!
I think these people are all about show, first time offroad and those lights would've been cactus.

Like you say they are probably all for show. Chances are they never go offroad.
And while we're at it..... What is it with the jerks who drive around with these/fog lights on? What is the point of lighting up a section of road that is within 5 metres in front of you when you are doing more than 10 km/h? "Look at me. I'm so cool. My car has an extra set of lights."

The fog lights in daytime issue has been discussed in other threads ...it's illegal in some states now to use them if there's no actual fog. People are getting booked for it too.

Definitely illegal to use fog lights other than in conditions of poor visibility, and also illegal to use them in conjunction with headlights. Note also that driving lights may not protrude over the top of any bull bar, nor should the bar or lights be able to be seen from the legally defined position of the driver's eyes.

Made me laugh hiline! Perhaps you do need them to drive over rocky terrain at night because you are drunk and have taken the forest route home to avoid the RBT.
There, we all need fog lights. It's quite justifiable.

the lights you are referring to are white,
they are "driving lights" (you know light walking lights, swimming lights, sitting lights....." and in SA if they are over 15w must be switched thru the high beam switch and an isolator switch (eg only work when h/beam on and then only with a switch...) this was reintroduced in January because of the huge amount of idiots who think its cool to drive with the d/lights on and the parkers only at night.....(or those who think their car should look like something from close encounters of the third kind...some of you are old enough to know what I mean!)

its a fine for "drive at night without head lamps illuminated (drive no h/lights) and drive with lights illuminated when not permitted to do so (sometimes this is substituted with - "use lights to dazzle other road users")
about 3 demerits in that and about $250 in SA....
and its being enforced...same as 40k past any emerg veh (either direction)...
lots getting caught this way and if you go past at 85+ (even if 110 zone) you can lose your lic for 6 months instantly (45+ over speed limit)...
