Wild LR pricing variations for similar bolts

just be carefull on prices for nuts and bolts.

some bolts requrie a specific tensile strenght others dont.

if you put a peanut paste 8.8 or unmarked bolt in a hole thats ment to have a 12.9 in it very bad things can happen.

dont be tempted to put 8.8 bolts or unmarked bolts into your vehicles drive flanges or brake rotor.

Why not?,Toyota bolted cruiser disc's on with mild steel bolts for 7 years,Quality control,whats dat!!. Pat

Why would you go to a car dealer's spare parts department for a bolt unless it was a special bolt specific to a vehicle?

Try a fastener specialist next time and be surprised how cheap high quality hardware is if you go to the right place.

I found some Stainless ones on ebay.uk that were quite reasonable, but I'd rather not have the SS as I've read about galvanic corrosion with the alloy. Sticking with the genuine parts for this job.

I fitted Stainless to mine, on the door hinges they aren't bad. As you may know already they don't bolt straight into the bulkhead but rather into little captive nuts the slot into place. Between the door and bulkhead are some nylon spacers and your hinges are steel anyway

My Defender is coming onto 15 years and I'm just beginning to see some electrolisis bubbling the paint at the bottom of the doors. It was the same with my old one. They both had standard hinges and bolts

One trick though it to lather the bolts in copper coat before you put it all together, it'll make it easier to get them out next time

Don't put copper coat on aluminium. Use Loctite Nickel anti-sieze.

^^^^ that's what I was thinking, genuine LR bolts:eek:, they went rusty in 4 years, why would you wan't more crappy bolts:D

But it's not on aluminium, it's on stainless steel threads ;). Thats what I was sent with my stainless bolts

I'm going to spray the new bolts with LanoTek (sp?) so am hoping it won't happen again.
