go get some rescue tape, that will do the trick to get it going in the mean time... i used it on my fuel lines on the county, it lasted me 4-5 months till i pulled the motor out and never leaked a bit......

We had the recall done. It subsequently rubbed through on Boxing Day a couple of years ago, lucky we were staying with relos so could borrow a car of theirs for a couple of weeks while it was repaired under our Alliance Extended Warranty. It rubbed through again twelve months later and was replaced again under warranty. I then pulled it out myself and found where it was rubbing through and wrapped it in a rubber sheath (split heater hose).

The second time it was repaired temporarily by placing a brass fitting into the pipe as per the photo. You may be able to get this done to get you back in action until the new part arrives. If you got really stuck you could borrow a pipe that I have with the temporary repair that I kept "in case I need it again".

    Cheers,
    Chris
Thanks so much for your input mate. On your third fuel pipe? that sounds horrible. Is it the same pipe that rubs through? From the photo it looks like the Green colour coded hose. Can you do anything to stop it from chafing? It is so frustrating for me having the car so far away!. like you suggested and what I can see from the photos a brass union such as the one you used could be a temporary fix. Thanks for the offer of your spare! When I get it back I am going to drop the tank to see what can be done.
    Regards Robbo.

Can you physically tell the diference between the original and the improoved replacement? Thanks.

Do they rub through just to the rear of the fuel filter ,there are a couple of pipes there that rub on a chasis rail?

If not where do they actually rub through...

On my disco, it has rubbed through in the same spot each time. In the attached photo the hole is near the bottom bend (i.e. where the brass union is). The photo shows, (from left to right)
    - my ultimate repair by shielding the pipe with a length of slit heater hose.
    - The first holed pipe with hole marked by the red circle. (I later cut it to measure the diameter when buying the heater hose).
    - The second busted pipe with temporary repair.

I had to drop the fuel tank a bit to be able to get the shielded pipe though, it being a tight fit between the tank and underside of the vehicle body. I am getting pretty good at removing the interior trim to get to the pump access cover by now...

    Cheers,
    Chris

I had to access my fuel pump several times so I cut a flap in the rear carpet with a razor blade. you cannot see it and its almost impossible to lift.removing all the interior is a PITA. I only cut 3 sides of a square so it hinges on the top bit.

    G'day Chris.
What size/type union did you use? Brass?. Waiting for a replacement seems a little too much. Looking on a UK site someone has same problem. None available in UK!!!. Backlogged 'til september?!!! What chance have we got here in Australia. Thinkin about catching train down and fixing it myself. Any thoughts?.
    Regards

Get one made at a hose maker, pirtek, total connections etc, they'll make it in half an hour and spiral wrap it for you so it won't rub through, same for your steering hoses, oil cooler and any others. It is cheaper and better quality. Pat

Sorry I don't know the exact brass union used. I measured the existing fuel pipe ID as 6.1mm, which should help you finding a suitable fitting though. As Pat said, if you can get it out and take it to a hose maker, it should be an easy repair for them.

We had this problem with one of the Discos on a recent Simpson Desert crossing. No Pirtek shop on the QAA Line so fuel line removed, repaired with two part epoxy, sleeved with a bit of split hose and a few clamps and after allowing to cure overnight, were on our way the next morning. No problems on rest of trip but replaced upon return to Sydney.
