Stuck in the snowys!

G'day to everyone.
I'm new to this site, I have a '04 TD5 Discovery Classic country 5spd zambesi silver. Having bought the vehicle new I have become quite fond of it. It has only 56000km on it and has been serviced to perfection by myself since new. So far mods are down to a JVC head unit with reverse camera, Uniden UHF radio, custom spear wheel cover, uprated lights and the EGR system removed.
I took my wife and two kids on a trip to the NSW snowy mountains on the 3/8/09. The car was running perfectly, comfortable, roomy, powerful and ecomomical. We powered down the Hume and left the highway at Yass for a little diversion to Wee Jasper and through the mountains and forrest to Tumut. From here we were heading for Adaminaby for a four night stay to explore the area. Longing for a steak sanga at Tumut, we parked and after a brief moment I turnrd the Disco off. I could immediatly smell diesel. Expecting to see the plastic drain plug on the bottom of the filter broken, all I saw was diesel dripping from the tank everything behind the tank was saturated in fuel. Bugger!!!

. Only one mechanic open in Tumut that day due to a mechanics picnic day. Even NRMA office shut!. Special thanks to Tim Oliver at the snowy service center in Tumut. Tim had a look and found that the leak was coming from the fuel harness that quick connects to the fuel pump assembly. This was the subject of a recall that I returned this vehicle to have repaired back in nov '04. Not happy!. It only gets better. Despite our best efforts on the phone and on the net, no replacement parts anywhere in the country!!

. 4 to 6 weeks out of the UK. We were going nowhere fast. We decided to hire a car to at least do our snow holiday which we realy enjoyed in the end. Tim very kindly looked after my beloved Landy. Fortunatly, our Uncle and aunt live in Talbingo and they are looking after the Disco until the part comes in. A big thanks to Phil and Maureen. The dropped us at Cootamundra station and we caught the train home. Not the way I intened our holiday to end. Anyone out there had a similar experiance?. This problem should have been fixed under waranty. Any advise or comments most welcome.

I'm surprised there covering anything considering you have serviced the car your self from new.....I thought you had to have it serviced and stamped by a reputable garage to keep warranty valid

Thanks but the car was serviced by dealer until waranty ran out. Ham fisted twits. Stripped thread on rotor filter cover that I fixed myself rather than take it back to them. There not covering anything.....YET.

Not the case Lou, to factory schedule using genuine parts. Thats it.

Don't even have to us genuine parts - but if a failure is due to a non genuine part then the claim is against the manufacturer of that part.

Ultra tune do not use genuine parts.

Hey RobboTD5 that really sux. I know your pain, we are on our third fuel pipe.
We had the recall done. It subsequently rubbed through on Boxing Day a couple of years ago, lucky we were staying with relos so could borrow a car of theirs for a couple of weeks while it was repaired under our Alliance Extended Warranty. It rubbed through again twelve months later and was replaced again under warranty. I then pulled it out myself and found where it was rubbing through and wrapped it in a rubber sheath (split heater hose).

The second time it was repaired temporarily by placing a brass fitting into the pipe as per the photo. You may be able to get this done to get you back in action until the new part arrives. If you got really stuck you could borrow a pipe that I have with the temporary repair that I kept "in case I need it again".

Where exactly on the vehicle does this rub through?Can it be seen from under the vehicle?,or from the side,maybe the fuel filter side?

Fairly common, I recently replaced one and noticed that the new one was a slightly different shape where it rubs on the chassis/ crossmember. I think they have tried to fix the issue possibly by altering the shape of the pipe slightly.

Makes a hell of a mess though!!

really I thought you had to get your book stamped how do you do that at home and prove you have done the service?

I thought you meant you personally serviced it....either way it doesn't look like it would be a problem anyway
