Who most hates being overtaken by a Landy?

I nominate middle-aged males, particularly if driving Mercs, BMWs or Holden V8s, especially Clubsports.
The other day I was 'progressing' down the M1 to the Gold Coast at a pace not unrelated to the 110km/h limit and cruised past a number of Mercs, BMWs and Holden V8s, all driven by middle aged males. Every single one of them suddenly felt the urge to pull out, roar up behind me, wait till I pulled over and then roar past. In each case they then slowed down, pulled back into the centre lane and continued on at about the same speed as me.
It wasn't the speed, they just couldn't bear to be overtaken by an old Landie.
    How about you?

20 - 40yr old males, either in Commodores or Rice burners, they hate it when a poo brown Landrover is gaining ground. Especially whilst towing a trailer

School mums in the Prado or Cruiser are always a problem. Doesnt matter what speed you are going. They simply must overtake. Then pull in slam on the brakes and turn off into the shops.

Patrool drivers are usually the worst.

They are mostly driven by over-weight guys with big lifts and tyres and no ability.

Patrool drivers I find always like being being at the front at the lights, so not only Landy's are in their sights but any vehicle for that matter.

Just my observation, not scientifically proven.

I know of an ongoing study, the purpose is to observe the penile size of actors playing roles in "party" style movies, upon initial observation it was recorded that the smaller actors would be the first to "perform the task at hand" with the bigger names nearly always "coming up from behind" to take the prize (if you could really call it that)

Unfortunately their government grant (the Rock n Roll) only allows these great minds of our generation to observe one new DVD per fortnight.

There are some similarities, perhaps Patrol drivers are really just unemployable wannabe porn stars.

Q why do folk usually associate a big lift with a lack of ability? I know some very capable LandRover drivers with lifted cars.

    hahaha

I think its really funny to overtake these guys (same ones as you mentioned) in George, especially after a particularly muddy run. They just can't handle it when a grubby old Landie trundles up behind them when they're puttering along at 90k's, then continues to trundle past. It's like someone has shoved them in the ribs.

Another thing I reckon is a hoot is when you're at the lights and they just gotta beat you away from the green light. But George's secret weapon is the V8 and some slick gear changes on my part, so when they slide off looking oh so superior I just keep pace with them, until they're reaching the upper limits of acceptable speed of course

Or when they just gotta move into your lane, but *they will not pull in behind* even if they were several car lengths to the rear to start with. So they race up to get in front not realising that the old bomb is already pacing them. Sometimes they must be doing well over 80 k's in a 50 k zone by my reckoning.

of course. I never exceed the speed limit.

I travel the M1 at least 6 times a week picking up my brats from Brissie. Now I'm either unobservant.....or they can't catch me . Plus with Smokey its the only time I get to pass anything ....open roads I need a good downhill stretch and if it is a semi......well may as crank up "Eruption" by Van Halen and hope for the best ,

    Regards

Of course,,not being an aggressive driver, or a speedster,,

I travel up and down the Hume Hwy a fair bit, and whenever you've got cruise set, some clown will re-overtake me, and then slow up again, so I have to come out of cruise wait for other cars or whatever, then do the process again,, Or you have to "undertake" them on the left cause they wont move out of the right hand lane,,

I just love it when they pull up in the 4th lane, its a bus lane, or short bit of lane before it swings back to 3 lanes,,its a Melbourne thing ,, they think their in a hurry and can blitz anyone anytime,, especially a dirty looking Landy,,
Power on,,, they've got nowhere to go,,, ,, half the time even when they do beat you,, they do less than the speed limit anyway,, so what was the point of them making sure they get to the front of the line,,????

You've gotta just LOVE big bullbars,,,

I know what you mean about cruise control and overtaking clowns. My "George" (is this a popular name for Landies?) has the cruise control set at about 115 km/h, which is really about 105 km/h by the GPS. Every time I get on a motorway and settle back with the cruise on some clown pulls in, slows down and makes me brake. They just can't stomach being overtaken.

Actually, I saw a guy in a TD5 towing a van do that the other day. He was in the outside lane cruising behind another van so I went past in the centre lane. Even gave him a Landy wave, which he ignored. Next thing he's pulled over on my bumper and then goes right across, steams past with his home on wheels, then pulls back in in front of me and slows down. Do TD5 owners hate being passed by Tdi's?
