Thanks for your posts, i've gone ahead and got a custom made one from Southern Cross. They are dustproof and waterproof according to Southern Cross...$375 delivered to my door.

BTW, I've ruled out the Bushranger Bush-Pak - I thought it was made from truck style tarp, you know - the rubberised canvas. Turns out it's only seam welded PVC so it's not for me.

Also, the In Front one is out, but purely on price. It looks like a great unit, but for $7 less I can get the same size from MSA with the better looking strap arrangement, plus the excellent reputation of all of the MSA products to go on.

So far it's looking like the Southern Cross is the winner - good quality, expandability (250m or 450mm height in one unit), and good price (around $80 cheaper than the MSA and the In Front, after freight). Also, like the MSA and In Front, it's Australian Made which I'm happy to pay a little more for.

The Rhino looked up to the task, but it also had a lot of little bits of trim that look like they'll capture dust and be hard to clean later.

I think that the zip you mean is the one that allows the bag to expand to full height, theres a continuous peice of canvas behind there and it certainly won't leak - water or dust. The main zip into the bag has a good storm flap over it and I haven't had any leaking problems there.

Also look at the quality of the zips used ...

I use a few things that I've had made by Southern Cross and they always use good zips.
I'm just a happy customer that keeps going back because they understand what I want and can make it in the quality I want.

I've just ordered one through North-West Offroad in Spreyton, TAS. I should have it in a couple of days.

I'll actually be based in Bayswater for the first two weeks of October (hence the need for the roof bag now, to fill with enough gear for me, mrs, + 4 short people) so I think I'll take a few minutes out and look at the range in their showroom while I'm in the area.

When Nicholas came along we also needed a bit of extra room, for swags and kiddo bedding on the roof. If you follow the instructions and wet it down and do all the stuff that I didn't;) you won't be dissappointed.

My first trip was the wetting down ... it ****** down (rained alot) and I didn't expect it to keep things dry - so I wrapped everything in a cheapo tarp. Not much water got in that time but since then, i've not needed to do anything more than chuck the stuff in and zip it up. No probs.

Check out the bag that hangs over the spare wheel, I got one of them - initially for rubbish (stinky nappies outside the car :)) and it's also great for dirty recovery gear.

I'm in Boronia, which is 5 mins down the road from Bayswater - so yep, I go direct. They've custom made me a toilet tent with enough room for mother and child(unlike commercial ones) and soon, I have a list of mods and repairs that need doing on my camper trailer... I'll be asking them to do them as well.

Have you seen the Mt Terrible Hut thread, that'll be while you're here - if you wanna catch up with other members and see what we're doing on the Huts.

Thanks, too, for the heads-up, but that Saturday is the Wedding that prompted the whoile trip and since I've been asked to be Best Man I'd better not shirk that duty. :D
