I've got a rhino roof bag which we recently took to Darwin and back. It has a flap over the zip but still let in a light dusting of bulldust, however I'm happy to recommend it.

yes, rhino bag is about as good a quality as you get I think, ours has been in use for some time and the zippers & plastic buckles remain functional
bought when autobarn had a sale on ....![]()
I bought one recently from Anaconda, $79.99.
Has been in pretty heavy rain, kept everything dry and dust free.
Comes with attached straps and hooks for tying down (all sewn).
Heavy quality canvas type material. Big chunky zip goes round 3 sides.
Not overly big but got all our camping stuff in, plus some, for 2 adults and a 6yr old. Size fits nicely into my half cage on the Disco.
Put stuff in bin-liners to be extra sure. How water proof are they?
Want 1 to put sleeping bags and pillows in.
If I remember I'll put the make up tonight when I get home....

I'd be very happy recommending mine from "Southern Cross Canvas".
Std size fits perfectly in the back half of my stepped TJM rack. It has an extra zip around the whole bag allowing it to extend to full height or just use it half height.
I bought it the day before my first trip that I wanted to use it, and didn't have time to wet it down properly and dry it out to get the canvas waterproof.
So, just for the first trip I wrapped everything in a plastic tarp knowing that it would leak ... it did slightly, but with the drenching it got on that first long weekend I've never had to rewet it and it's never leaked ... Water or Dust ... fixings are easy and good quality.
Looks good, tough, and does the job really well.

I'm looking for a roof bag too, and I was wondering about peoples opinions/experiences.
So far I've found about five in roughly the size that I want. They are, in no particular order, these:
In Front Camping Gear - 60"x48"x10"
Rhino Luggage Bag LBL - 1500x1100x300
Bushranger Bush-Pak - Large - 1520x1220x330
Michelle's Sacs Tourer Pack 1200x1500x300
Southern Cross Canvas Roof Bag - 1500x1200x250/450
As best I can tell from the web, the "In Front" product is pretty much what they say, a 'no-frills' product, good quality at a reasonable (though slightly towards the higher end) price.
The Rhino bag I've actually been able to have a look at (in a different size) in my local ARB store and the quality looks good.
The BushRanger bag writes up well, but wasn't in stock yet at our new TJM store so I couldn't have a close look.
The Michelles Sacs has a better looking system of hold-down straps than all of the competition, using the straps to hold the load not just the bag, but is it over $100 better - I don't know.
The Southern Cross bag appears to have the zips exposed to the weather in the pics on their website, but - is this correct? Otherwise the versatility of being able to expand it from 250mm high to 450mm high when needed is a great idea.
I'm Particularly interested in resistance to water ingress more than dust - I live in Tassie, so rain storms are far more common than dust. So, does anyone else have any further comments on any of these models?
Currently I'm leaning toward the BushRanger Bush-pak for reasons of price, material of construction, and availability, or the Southern Cross (provided the zips are covered) for its versatility, but I'd like to hear more from someone who's actually used each one of these units.
Cheers,...Jon.
Gday All, Ive got the michelles sack roof bag for my Disco and would recommend them to anyone..Its been thru top end wet seasons, bulldust, mud and packed full with more stuff than you think possible, thanks mainly to my 2 teenage daughters when they decice that the parents are :cool enough " to be seen with.Haven't had any probs with the zippers or the straps/buckles and everything inside has stayed clean and dry.
I did have a look at a couple of others but didn't want PVC so went for M/sack.
Cheers Ean
