600 what? Nm or lb/ft or HP?

The V8 in the 70 series is detuned with only one turbo. The Lexus has the "good one".
I think the 70 only comes in manual. The Jerno's only like towing in autos.(Too much to think about for them)

I don't think any of them are good ones, all they have done is equaled the Td5 in technology, they don't even have a VNT.The cruiser is a mish mash of old idea's with new ones in a hodge podge of mis-matched parts. Pat

My mate has a current V8 troopie and my brother has a 2007 Hilux dual cab 3 litre D4D,we lined them up at the lights both empy and the hilux won by about 15 car lengths it was a joke that troopie has grunt off the bottom until 2000rpm then it just falls on its face,my mate has now had his chipped up and it does go better, but he will not race my brothers stock standed hilux again,he said he couldnt go through that embarrasment again,i think that the cruisers previous 6 cylinder turbo was heaps quicker than the current V8s.....Wes.

I was talking to a Toyota dealer principal the other day - he said that you don't want to get a coolant leak on the top of the turbo - its an engine out job to fix it! Otherwise he said that the excessive oil consumption problem has been fixed - that too was a turbo problem.

Looking in that engine bay - I'd MUCH rather work on my P38a!!

I don't like the low mounting of the turbos - it could spell $$$ if a hot turbo is quenched during a water crossing.

I did a test with 4wd monthly last february and tested the Cruiser tray back against the patrol tray back. Both good enough trucks, but even despite the smaller engine and the 3.0L suspect past i wouldnt even look at the cruiser. We didnt load them up at all so both were driven for the duration of the test with nothing in them. Having driven the Tdi for 4 years the 4.5L cruiser TD was impressive and pulled up and down hills with ease in 5th gear, and accelerated that sees the disco looking for 4th gear, but i would hope to hell that a turbo diesel motor nearly double the size and supposedly 10 plus years further ahead in development would do that.

In the end the motor just wasnt enough to make me fork out 10-15k more for the cruiser over the patrol. The rest of the truck is the same as the original one back in the 80's, they just moved the gaurds out a bit to accomodate the larger motor, the interior looks not one bit different from its older siblings and the upright seating postion they are reound for makes the defender an ergonomics expert's wet dream.

Sorry, but its just not that good, there are better trucks out there for the money, and i would have a pajero any day over a cruiser, the diesel motor in those pajero's is impressive. Matt

Yea and a leaking turbo oil feed line on a TDV8 RR will necessatate lifting the body off, I know what I'd rather

Actually I;d rather the RR sport, but supercharged
