Series 5 was introduced around 1986, based on a 110in coil - sprung defender chassis. 4 versions were avaiable, s.51 standard car, s.52 turreted, s.55 un turreted, and s.53 air defence, which monted either 2 blowpipe or javelin surface to air missiles, not bad for a Land Rover.

Series 5 had power steering ( thank god ) improved suspension, tighter turning circle, and a top speed of 121kph. Optional extras, included run flat tyres, machine gun hatch in the s.55 armoured glass and a PA system.

At the end of the production run for the Series 5, this Land Rover type was in service with more than 38 countries ( the nearest to Oz were Thailand, Malaysia )

Shortland MK4 3.5 v8

1983 Glover Web

A fully approved Land Rover Conversion, based on a 110 chassis. Windows and Screen were 1.4in mult- layer laminate glass, with a polycarbonate anti spall liner (Beats Me that one)

Glass fibre composites were used to provide grenade and blast protection to the floor.
Plus belly plate under the cab area, options were air con, comes, smoke, power winch riot screens.

Shortland S5 With Javlin/Blowpipe

Think this is a Shortland Mk3, with Vigilant missile mounting either side of the turret.

I've not seen that hotspur conversion in particular before. an interesting mix of the aussie 2a and 6x6 LRPV's!

This is the mk5 Shorland prototype built in 1982 for testing by land rover not a mk4 as stated previously in this post and in some publications the clue is the wheel arches mk4’s have no arches.

This Shorland was the press demonstrator for shorts last time I saw that vehicle it was in bits in a work shop in Northern Ireland and the chassis had been used for another project I tried to purchase all the other bits but they wanted to keep them.

Love that Marshalls left hook 110 wagon,"Belfast Milk Truck"

now that would make for good crowd control at rock concerts,and the Perentie Prototype is still around, it was at Cooma in 08,still owned by LRA, as was the Tuck Truck,(soft top 6X).

those pics of the LHD Perentie LRPV with the other 6x6 varients look like it was taken O/S as those trees don't look Australian, nor does the Camo, and that sand coloured narrow 6 x 6 looks like the new one that the LR/MOD is thinking of building.

BTW. Juddy there is a Stalwart in Aust in Qld, and it is fitted with the crane & operators seating.I have driven it

6 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering

Love those old JRA posters for the new military vehicles, where have I heard that phone No before,(02)600-1333 still sits in my mind!!!!!!
