    Matt,
The reason I took it to court was because the offense happened on the 4th of Nov last year. The on the spot fine was $600 and one months loss of license which was to take effect in one month. So I would have been without a license from 4th of Dec to 4th of Jan. For reasons to numerous to mention this would not have been a good time for me to not have a license.

I also spoke to a beak to see about pleading with the judge to keep my license but was told that the judges hands were tied and would not have that option.

However the prosecutor does have the option to downgrade the charge. So I thought I would try pleading my case with them as I only needed one measly kilometre taken off the charge.

My beak wrote a letter to vicroads to plead for compassion, I would lose my job, I do have a good driving record(one speeding by less than 10 k in the last seven years) etc but it all fell on deaf ears.
The upside was by going to court I have saved $300 as the fine was reduced to $250 plus $40 court costs

40 bucks when you consider whats involved is cheap. Pitty we can't get the courts to fix our Landies.

    Dave.

    Ah right. Thanks mate.

In NSW if you plead guilty at the first opportunity (like you did) they're required to discount the $$ (thats a direction from the Attorney Generals Dept but the courts can really do what they want).

Yeah, I reckon a knock down of the speed a K or so to keep you on the road sounds reasonable. In NSW the RTA are totally independant of the courts findings, so even if the Magistrate awards no penalty or costs the good 'ole RTA still hands you the demerit points...

My cousin copped an over 45kph speed (damn GSX-750 - so he says) up near Murwillumbah? and spent the six months off the track riding his pushie to work and back. Said he never felt fitter and saved a heap of cash on fuel (except for the $1650 fine of course).

Good luck with it all Dave, hope the time passes quickly....

    Matt.

    Thanks Matt,
Yes the motor bikes are a problem. Luckily for me I live in country Vic and I ride a 2008 Kawasaki Z1000.

You might one day read about me in the papers being the Goulburn Valleys oldest hoon.

When you say "mine was done" do you mean loss of license?

hey i lost my license aswell! i got done doing 103 in a 70 zone!

I asked the police officer if he could drop it to 99 so i wouldn't have to walk but he just goes im giving you an infringement for 103 in a 70 zone. mind you i think my response was pretty good...."Awsum" he gave me an odd look and walked off.

but in my defense i never speed since i wrote off my last car and i had a really annoying driver in front of me and i over took them and i must have gone straight past a unmarked car because i didnt see him.

I also live in the sticks of victoria....coldstream/croydon lol i have two addresses.

so that is my 2 cents i reckon police officers should use there discretion alot more. I have a police officer as a dad and back in his day he used to do speed, and pull people over that were speeding and provided you were nice to him he would let you off with a warning. i mean by all means i wouldnt say its acceptable to speed or anything like that but to make someone walk for a month due to one error specially since i was friendly and i hadnt been pulled over for over 2 years. (im 21 so ive only had a license for 3 years)

    so thats my little spiel

    thanks mike

    Mike,
Dropping your speed back to 99 would not have done any good in a 70 zone as any more than 25 over is loss of license. I was doing 26 over.

    Yup. That's what did this:

Turned out to be a great thing, I got into mountain biking, lost a bunch of weight just in time for my bro's wedding, even did a beginner's triathlon. Of course I've stacked it all back on and then some now, but it really was good for me!
    Gotta love bikes!
