When I was in Wewak I got a story that explained one of the airframe log book entries in the Cessna 180 I owned in the early seventies. It seems that when it was based in Wewak, one of the pilots was demonstrating that with the 180 you can get a real short landing run by touching down with the brakes on. The idea is that the main gear is so far forward that it is impossible to nose over if you touch down in a three point attitude.
It might work on grass - but it did not work on the tarmac at Wewak. Next log book entry was a complete rebuild in Brisbane.
