Any one heard of hassles with late model Rangies?

    Hi Everyone

Thanks for the 200 Series goss.

How are the late series Rangies going?

My feeling on here is that the D3 Discos and late Rangies are doing well, better than the Puma Defender. You don't hear much complaining.

I was speaking to a bloke with a 04 diesel HSE rangie a few weeks ago. he had owned it since new, and was his work car. He had done 220,000kms around australia, lots of it dirt, and had no complaints. Achieved 11l/100kms on average.

His only problem was hitting a stump and cracking the fuel pickup near broome, which would have happened with any car.

Oh and he wasnt happy with the 30k trade-in, that was offered recently when new price was 150k.

Do you classify an '03 Rangie as late model?

If so, then I've been very happy with mine and had nothing serious at all go wrong with it. 140,000Kms on the clock. Luckily it had a 5 year warranty because the front diff got replaced last year, but this was a known problem with the 03 and 04 models.

Not much else to say - it's economical, and hasn't ever broken down on me, so no complaints at all (apart from the horrible depreciation ). A beautiful thing to drive long distances.

Now that we have owned one my partner won't have anything else, ours gets 9ltrs/100 easily and is rock solid. The D3 and L322 onwards RR's have done alot for LR's reputation. The Puma's aren't all bad, more people are having trouble free runs than not.Like I've already posted alot of tojo owners aren't feelin' the luv. He said he wanted to keep it for a few more years, as there is nothing wrong with it. I told him to call me before he traded it in, but 30k would be a typical price for the trade in on a 5 year old rangie with very high kms (220+).

The km's are probably a bit high compared to the average but if the car has been looked after and serviced I think it should not be a problem for a car like this.
Maybe I should look at the auctions to see if any come up at this price

You get good ones, but there are some horror stories out there too. I think most of the issues have been sorted by now though.

I think if they are holding up as well as they appear to be then they are becoming seriously good value purchases on the S/H market. 30k is cheap for such a prestige car given what the previous owner paid for it new some years ago.
