Looks like a T16, or perhaps a T7 depending on how close you were when you took the photo.
You should be able to find enough info on them from the net.

I inherited this winch when I bought my last house, so I decided to see if it works. I think Noah used it on the Ark.
Can anyone give me a clue on its operation. I looked up the net & can find nothing on this model. All the descriptions mention a safety lever on the side, which this one doesn't have.

You have 2 levers (Marked TIRFOR in photo and the big one on the side) - one for letting the cable out and one for letting it in.
YOu should have a bar (handle) that fits over them.
The litte "T" peice is to release the cable when you are threading it through.
Have a little practice - it's not that complex.
Use gloves. Keep onlookers clear and aware of what you are doing.
They also have a sheer pin so if it appears that it is not pulling cable you may need a new one.
Just had another look - make sure you bolt the cover up too - it's missing a few fasteners.
Is that a project trailer you have going on there in the background?![]()

And if you ever need to use one on your 4wd you will realise how unfit you are!
I have owned one can't help with a manual but the little "T" handle at the front is pulled until it locates in the recess to enable the correct size cable to be pushed through until slack is removed. Then ''T" handle is moved to operate position. the handle on the side is the IN and the handle in middle is the out. The IN handle has shear pins the OUT doesn't. A very good brand that are very reliable, thought spares and support would still be available.
that is a very old Tirfor you have posted pics of
I bought mine in 1984, still got, used very infrequently and only once as a recovery winch when l got my swb Nissan 3.3 turbo diesel stuck in clay mud on the Daintree track back in 1986.
Mine all nice silver metal body shape
Don't believe what people say about Tirfor winches easy to use and operate hardest part is you have to feed all winch cable through body to get to right length your going to winch from.
Thanks for all your help. I will have another look at it tomorrow.
I left most of the bolts out after I stripped it down to clean it. All I found inside was a mouse nest & the mouse that was squashed when I operated it.
Thats a 6 berth dog trailer I'm building. It's slow progress at the moment due to lack of finances. Hopefully, it will be finished before our show season starts next year. I need it to cart 5 of our 6 dogs to shows.Originally Posted by Stooge

Check your cable is not damaged too.
Here is a bit of a video with a more modern variation of the same style of winch.

Oh and welcome to the forum. We've got a few other raafies here - you may know some.
Cheers
