road trip !!
I recently used SMB Car Transport to carry my 130 dual cab from Brisbane to near Geelong Vic. Door to door service was $880. I thought about flying up and driving home, but when I added the cost of the flight and fuel for the drive home, along with time and convenience, I thought it was well worth it, and that was delivered to my driveway in a country town.
It is cheaper if you elect to have the vehicle delivered to a transport depot in a major city at either end of the trip for ease of pick up by the transport company.

We shipped out D2a from Alice to Melbourne via Northline and this is how they did it. Sutton Motors were also helpful in recommending freight options at the time.
I had a problem: as the car wasn't drivable the car carriers wouldn't move it or if they would they wanted even more money. From memory it was about $800 and the cheapest car carrier was about $1500 (if the car had been drivable). SO I would check with the freight companies, not just the car carriers and see what they can do. Maybe talk to their Coff's office/agent rather than a local one to you.
How did you go finding a carrier?
I'm currently trying to find a carrier to get a County from Gosford to Tassie. So far there are a couple that are within about a $100 range either side of $1000 for the whole job, pickup in Gosford to depot in Tassie. They are Auto-Logistics, Autotrans (which is owned by TOLL). Both of these two have been very helpful so far.
Also, there's another group carcarrying.com.au that would bring it right to my door for a little under $1500. (I can get it the last 80km for a whole lot less than $400 though.). I've not had any interaction with them other than their automated quoting system though, but that was fast and easy.
Cheers,...Jon.
