    Removing graffiti

Hey guys, I'm after some advice if any one can help.
Our house goes up for its first home open this Sunday, and last night some little toe-rags decided to graffiti all down our side colourbond fencing in a mixture of felt markers and paint. Three years we've been there, and haven't had so much as a pen touch the fence, now 3 days before we try to sell, this happens, and we haven't even got the sale board out front yet!!

Has anyone got any ideas or recommend anything we might be able to use in trying to remove this cr@p quickly before we open on Sunday?

    Cheers in advance....

Damn toe-rags! That just makes me angry!!

Going to be hard to remove without fading or damaging the colourbond in some way.

You could try turpentine, or some other solvent/thinner, but I doubt it will come off cleanly and not attack the paint as well.

Something else that works a treat, on oil types of marks anyway, is CRC / INOX type of spray.

You can buy colorbond paint colours, I think from Bunnings, so maybe painting it might be a quick fix.

Or there are graffitti contractors around that can do the work for you.

    Damn little so and so's!

I needed to do some repair on a colour bond gutter, took a sample in to the paint shop to match it.
"Colourbond, standard colours mate - already mixed for you!"
Just brushed it on - can't see new from old after a day.
    cheers

If there is marker (ink) on the fence you will need to remove it or cover it with something before you paint over it. If you don't the ink will bleed through the paint.

Unfortunately this will probably mean using a solvent of some description which will in turn remove the paint on the fence, but you have to re paint anyway so no biggy.

The spray paint should be ok to paint straight over unless it is oil based (enamel like Kill rust etc) in which case do the same as above.

    Hi Kieren,

I have seen "Graffiti Remover" in Bunnings, never used the stuff myself though. I ring the council if it's anywhere near us and they come out and get rid of it within a week (Swanshire Council).

With regard to the graffiti remover my local Bunnings has it either near the kero, turps, meths, etc or near the household cleaning prooducts (hand wash, scrubbing pads, etc.)

Hope this helps and good luck with the sale (ours going on market in a couple of weeks as well).

If you do not want to repaint you could give acetone a go. I use it lots of things: cleaning Marker Pen off and removing oil from my Bike brake pads.

If the graffiti remover doesn't work, Bunnings sell spray cans of all colorbond colours. Colour match will be perfect if your fence hasn't faded, and if you use a spray can you won't see brush marks.

    Removing graffiti.

Are you hoping there'll be no vandals when you move Kieren? I doubt you'll find a suburb anywhere these days where the scum aren't roaming the streets looking for something to destroy.
And it gets worse every school holiday.
    I wonder if that's just a coincidence?
    Alan.
